The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy(DOE) produce the Fuel Economy Guide tohelp car buyers choose the most fuel-efficient vehicle that meets their needs.The Guide is published in print and on theWeb at www.fueleconomy.gov. Fuel Economy EstimatesEach vehicle in this guide has two fueleconomy estimates:

A city estimate that represents urbandriving, in which a vehicle is started inthe morning (after being parked all night)and driven in stop-and-go traffic

A highway estimate that represents amixture of rural and interstate highwaydriving in a warmed-up vehicle, typical oflonger trips in free-flowing traffic

•

These fuel economy estimates are basedon laboratory testing. All vehicles aretested in the same manner to allow fair

comparisons. For answers to frequentlyasked questions about fuel economyestimates, visit www.fueleconomy.gov.

Annual Fuel Cost EstimatesThis Guide provides annual fuel costestimates for each vehicle. The estimatesare based on the assumptions that youtravel 15,000 miles per year (55% undercity driving conditions and 45% underhighway conditions) and that fuel costs$2.60/gallon for regular unleaded gasolineand $2.80/gallon for premium. Cost-per-gallon assumptions for vehicles that useother fuel types are discussed at thebeginning of those vehicle sections. Thefuel costs were determined in advance toallow time for printing fuel economy labelsand the Guide and may not reflect currentfuel prices.

Your Fuel Economy Will VaryEven though EPA recently improved itsmethods for estimating fuel economy, yourvehicle’s fuel economy will almost certainlyvary from EPA’s estimate. Fuel economy isnot a fixed number; it varies significantlybased on where you drive, how you drive,and other factors. Thus, it is impossible for

one set of estimates to predict fueleconomy precisely for all drivers in allenvironments. For example, the followingfactors can lower your vehicle’s fueleconomy:

Aggressive driving (hard accelerationand braking)

•

Excessive idling, accelerating, andbraking in stop-and-go traffic

•

Cold weather (engines are more efficientwhen warmed up)

•

Driving with a heavy load or with the airconditioner running

•

Improperly tuned engine or under-inflated tires

•

In addition, small variations in vehiclemanufacturing can cause MPG variationsin the same make and model, and somevehicles don’t attain maximum fueleconomy until they are "broken in" (around3,000–5,000 miles).

So, please remember that the EPA ratingsare a useful tool for comparing vehicleswhen car buying, but they may notaccurately predict the MPG you will get.This is also true for annual fuel costestimates. For more information on fuel

UNDERSTANDING THEGUIDE LISTINGS

We hope you’ll find the Fuel EconomyGuide easy to use! Fuel economy andannual fuel cost data are organized byvehicle class (see page 2 for a list ofclasses). Within each class, vehicles arelisted alphabetically by manufacturer andmodel.

Vehicle models with different features,such as engine size or transmission type,are listed as different vehicles—engine andtransmission attributes are shown incolumns 2 and 3. Additional attributesneeded to distinguish among vehicles arelisted in the “Notes” column (e.g., fuel type,suggested fuel grade). A legend forabbreviations is provided on page 5.

A “P” in the “Notes” column indicates thatthe manufacturer recommends or requiresthe vehicle be fueled with premium-gradegasoline. The higher price of premiumgasoline is reflected in the annual fuel cost.

The most fuel-efficient vehicles in eachclass and alternative fuel vehicles areindicated with special markings (seediagram below). Vehicles that can usemore than one kind of fuel have an entryfor each fuel type.

WHY SOME VEHICLES ARENOT LISTED

Fuel economy regulations currently do notapply to vehicles with a Gross VehicleWeight Rating (vehicle weight plus carryingcapacity) of more than 8,500 pounds or acurb weight over 6,000 pounds. Therefore,some large pickup trucks, vans, and SUVsare not tested, and fuel economy labels arenot posted on their windows.

Also, for some vehicles, fuel economyinformation is not available in time to beprinted in the Guide. However, you can findmore up-to-date information atwww.fueleconomy.gov.

TAX INCENTIVES ANDDISINCENTIVES

Tax Credits and DeductionsIf you purchase a qualifying hybrid, diesel,or dedicated alternative fuel vehicle (AFV)in 2009–10, you may be eligible for afederal income tax credit of up to $3,400for hybrids and diesels or $4,000 forAFVs—compressed natural gas (CNG)vehicles are the only AFVs commerciallyavailable as of publication of the Guide.The credit amount varies from vehicle tovehicle, and the hybrid and diesel creditwill be gradually phased out based onmanufacturer sales. Flexible fuel vehicles(FFVs) are not eligible for the alternativefuel credit.

Gas Guzzler TaxThe Energy Tax Act of 1978 requires autocompanies to pay agas guzzler tax on thesale of cars with exceptionally low fueleconomy. Such vehicles are identified inthe guide by the word "Tax" in the "Notes"column. In the dealer showroom, thewords "Gas Guzzler" and the tax amountare listed on the vehicle’s fuel economylabel. The tax does not apply to lighttrucks.

WHY CONSIDER FUELECONOMY?

Save MoneyYou could save as much as $1,400 in fuelcosts each year by choosing the mostfuel-efficient vehicle in a particular class.This can add up to thousands over a

vehicle’s lifetime. Fuel-efficient modelscome in all shapes and sizes, so you neednot sacrifice utility or size.

Each vehicle listing in the Fuel EconomyGuide provides an estimated annual fuelcost (see page i). The online guide atwww.fueleconomy.gov features anannual fuel cost calculator that allows youto insert your local gasoline prices andtypical driving conditions (percentage ofcity and highway driving) to obtain themost accurate fuel cost information foryour vehicle.

Reduce Oil Dependence CostsBuying a more fuel-efficient vehicle canhelp reduce our dependence on foreignoil. More than half of the oil used toproduce the gasoline you put in your tankis imported. The United States uses morethan 20 million barrels of oil per day, two-thirds of which is used for transportation.Petroleum imports cost us about $5.7billion a week—that’s money that could beused to fuel our own economy.

Reduce Climate ChangeClimate change is widely viewed as themost signifi cant long-term threat to theglobal environment, and man-madeemissions of greenhouse gases are verylikely the cause of most of the observedglobal warming over the last 50 years.

Burning fossil fuels such as gasoline anddiesel releases carbon dioxide (CO2) andother greenhouse gases (GHGs) into theatmosphere, contributing to global climatechange. CO2 is the most importanthuman-made GHG, and highway vehiclesaccount for 26% (1.7 billion tons) of U.S.CO2 emissions each year.

Every gallon of gasoline your vehicleburns puts about 20 pounds of CO2 into

the atmosphere—the average vehicleemits around 6 to 9 tons of CO2 eachyear. Unlike other forms of vehiclepollution, CO2 emissions cannot bereduced by pollution control technologies.They can only be reduced by burning lessfuel or by burning fuel that contains lesscarbon.

One of the most important things you cando to reduce your contribution to climatechange is to buy a vehicle with better fueleconomy. The difference between 25miles per gallon and 20 miles per galloncan prevent the emission of 10 tons ofCO2 over a vehicle’s lifetime.

FUEL ECONOMY AND ANNUAL FUEL COST RANGES FOR VEHICLE CLASSES

The graph below provides the fuel economy and annual fuel cost ranges for the vehicles in each class so you can see where a givenvehicle's fuel economy and cost fall within its class. Combined city and highway MPG estimates are used; these assume you will drive55% in the city and 45% on the highway. Annual fuel costs assume you travel 15,000 miles each year and fuel costs $2.60/gallon forregular unleaded gasoline and $2.80/gallon for premium. Ethanol Blends – E85 & E10Ethanol is an alcohol fuel made byfermenting and distilling starch crops,such as corn. It may also be made from"cellulosic biomass" such as trees andgrasses in the near future. The use ofethanol can reduce U.S. dependence onforeign oil and reduce greenhouse gases.

E10 or "gasohol" is a blend of 10%ethanol and 90% gasoline sold in manyparts of the country. All automanufacturers approve the use of blendsof 10% ethanol or less in their gasolinevehicles.

E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15%gasoline, can be used in FFVs, which arespecially designed to run on gasoline,E85, or any mixture of the two. FFVs areoffered by several vehicle manufacturers.To determine if your vehicle is an FFV,check the inside of your car’s fuel fillerdoor for an identification sticker or consultyour owner’s manual. More than 1,900filling stations in the United Statescurrently sell E85. Visithttp://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/stations/find_station.php for locations nearyou.

There is no noticeable difference invehicle performance when low-levelethanol blends are used. However, FFVsoperating on E85 usually experience a20–30% drop in MPG due to ethanol’slower energy content.

BiodieselBiodiesel is a commercially availablediesel-replacement fuel manufacturedfrom vegetable oils or animal fats. Itproduces fewer greenhouse gases thanpetroleum diesel and, since it is madedomestically from renewable resources,increases national energy security.

Biodiesel can be blended at any ratio withpetroleum diesel, but it is most commonlysold at ratios of 2%, 5%, or 20%, denotedas B2, B5, and B20. The vehiclemanufacturers that produce the dieselslisted in the Fuel Economy Guide currentlyapprove the use of biodiesel blends of upto 5% (B5) in their vehicles but state thatvehicle damage caused by using higherblends will not be covered under themanufacturer’s warranty. Check yourowner’s manual or with your vehiclemanufacturer to determine the right blendfor your vehicle.

Use of biodiesel blends may reduce fueleconomy slightly, less than 1% for B5.

Purchase commercial-grade biodieselfrom a reputable dealer. Never refuelwith clean or used grease or vegetableoil that has not been converted tobiodiesel. It will damage your engine.

Premium- vs. Regular-GradeGasolineThe recommended gasoline for most carsis regular unleaded. Using a higher-octane gasoline than recommended bythe owner’s manual does not improveperformance or fuel efficiency; it onlycosts more money. Check your owner’smanual to determine the lowest grade offuel you can use.

HYBRID-ELECTRIC VEHICLESIt's no accident that the most fuel-efficient vehicles in some classes for the 2010 model year are hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs).Hybrids combine the best features of the internal combustion engine with an electric motor and can significantly improve fuel economywithout sacrificing performance or driving range. HEVs may also be configured to provide increased performance or provide electricalpower to auxillary loads such as power tools.

HEVs are primarily propelled by an internal combustion engine, just like conventional vehicles. However, they also convert energynormally wasted during coasting and braking into electricity which is stored in a battery until needed by the electric motor. The electricmotor assists the engine when accelerating or hill climbing and at low speeds where internal combustion engines are least efficient.Unlike all-electric vehicles, HEVs now being offered do not need to be plugged into an external source of electricity to be recharged;conventional gasoline and regenerative braking provide all the energy the vehicle needs.

Potential buyers should also be aware that the federal government is currently offering tax incentives for HEVs. Some states also offerincentives. Additional information on HEVs, including tax incentives, can be found at www.fueleconomy.gov.

ETHANOL FLEXIBLE-FUEL VEHICLESThis section contains the fuel economy and driving range values for ethanol flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs). These vehicles are designedto operate on gasoline, E85 (a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), or any mixture of the two fuels. Annual fuel cost is estimatedassuming 15,000 miles of travel each year (55% city and 45% highway) and an average fuel cost of $2.10 per gallon for E85, $2.60 pergallon for regular unleaded gasoline, and $2.80 per gallon for premium unleaded gasoline. The price of ethanol is highly variable fromregion to region; it is typically lower in the midwestern United States and higher in other areas. Therefore, actual consumer experiencemay differ significantly from the annual fuel cost estimate presented here.

Fuel economy and driving range values are shown for both gasoline and E85. When operating your FFV on mixtures of gasoline andE85, such as when alternating between using these fuels, your driving range and fuel economy values will be somewhere betweenthose listed for the two fuels, depending on the actual percentage of gasoline and E85 in the tank.

DIESEL VEHICLESDiesel-powered vehicles typically get 30-35% more miles per gallon than comparable vehicles by gasoline. Dieselengines are inherently more energy efficient, and diesel fuel contains 10% more energy per gallon than gasoline. Inaddition, new advances in diesel engine technology have improved performance, reduced engine noise and fuel odor, anddecreased emissions of harmful air pollutants. Ultra-low sulfur diesel fuels also help reduce emissions from thesevehicles.

The federal government is currently offering tax incentives for qualifying diesel vehicles. Additional information on theseincentives and up-to-date information on qualifying vehicles can be found at www.fueleconomy.gov.

Annual fuel costs below are estimated assuming 15,000 miles of travel each year (55% city and 45% highway) and adiesel fuel cost of $2.70 per gallon.

COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS VEHICLESThis section supplies the driving range and fuel economy values for vehicles that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG). CNG fuelis normally dispensed in "equivalent gallons", where one equivalent gallon is equal to 121.5 cubic feet of CNG. Therefore, the fueleconomy values are shown in miles per gallon-eqivalent. Annual fuel cost estimates are based on an average fuel price of $1.45 pergasoline equivalent gallon of CNG. The driving range is shown in miles and represents the distance the vehicle can travel on a full tank(or tanks) of fuel during combined city and highway driving (55% city and 45% highway).

The federal government is currently offering tax incentives for some CNG vehicles. Some states also offer incentives. For moreinformation, visit www.fueleconomy.gov.

FUEL CELL VEHICLESFuel cell vehicles (FCVs) may not reach the mass market for a decade or more, but a limited number will be available for sale or leasein 2008-09 to demonstration fl eets in areas with a readily accessible hydrogen supply. FCVs are propelled by electric motors poweredby fuel cells, which produce electricity from the chemical energy of hydrogen. Fuel cell technology is more efficient than internalcombustion engines and environmentally cleaner—the only by-product of a hydrogen fuel cell is water. However, many challengesmust be overcome before FCVs are mass-marketed and sold at local dealerships. IMPROVE YOUR FUEL ECONOMY


Drive More Efficiently

Aggressive driving (speeding and rapidacceleration and braking) can lower yourgas mileage by as much as 33% athighway speeds and 5% around town.

•

Observe the speed limit—each 5 MPHyou drive over 60 MPH can reduce yourfuel economy by 7-8%.

•

Avoid idling—idling gets 0 miles pergallon!

•

Using cruise control on the highway helps•

you maintain a constant speed and, inmost cases, will save gas.

Keep Your Car in Shape

Fixing a car that is noticeably out of tunecan improve gas mileage by about 4%.

•

Keeping tires inflated to therecommended pressure and using therecommended grade of motor oil canimprove fuel economy by up to 5%.

•

The manufacturer’s recommended tirepressure can be found on the tireinformation placard and/or vehiclecertification label located on the vehicledoor edge, doorpost, glove-box door, orinside the trunk lid.

Keep your tires aligned and balanced.•

Replacing a clogged air filter can improvegas mileage on older cars with carburetedengines.

•

Plan and Combine Trips

A warmed-up engine is more fuel-efficientthan a cold one. Many short trips taken

•

from a cold start can use twice as muchfuel as one multipurpose trip covering thesame distance.

Note: Letting your car idle to warm-updoesn’t help your fuel economy, it actuallyuses more fuel and creates morepollution.

Other Solutions

Avoid carrying unneeded items. An extra100 lbs. can decrease fuel economy by 1-2%.

•

A roof rack or carrier provides additionalcargo space and may allow you to meetyour needs with a smaller car. However,a loaded roof rack can decrease your fueleconomy by 5%.

•

Reduce aerodynamic drag and improveyour fuel economy by placing items insidethe trunk whenever possible.
