Program ObjectivesThis course provides up-to-date, evidence-based information on topics commonly encountered in primary care and addresses how to incorporate these developments into daily practice.

This year’s topics include preventive care, pain management, hospice care, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, women’s health, and pediatrics in addition to a session covering the timely topic of the legal risks in primary care.

At the end of participation in this program, the attendees should attain knowledge on the following areas of medicine:

• Cardiovascular Learn an evidence-based approach to treating patients with hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

• Gastroenterology Plan an approach to patients with irritable bowel syndrome, and understand the options for colon cancer screening.

• Pulmonology Diagnose and treat pneumonia.

• Neurology Outline an approach to the evaluation of a patient with dizziness, and diagnose and manage patients with dementia.

• Pediatrics Plan an approach to children with obesity, and diagnose and treat pediatric urinary tract infections.

• Women’s Health Describe the evaluation and management of women with early pregnancy failure, in addition to reviewing guidelines for osteoporosis screening.

• Psychiatry Differentiate between patients with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.

• Palliative Care Learn when and how hospice care is appropriate for patients with end-stage medical conditions.

• Pain Management Describe best practices in management of fibromyalgia and other chronic pain syndromes.

Sports Medicine

Program ObjectivesThis one-day program is designed for primary care physicians who wish to improve their ability to care for physi-cally active patients, provide medical services to athletic teams, and promote physical activity to their patients. Plenary sessions will cover major musculoskeletal and medical topics in sports medicine. Breakout sessions will be offered to provide hands-on practice of the musculoskeletal physical exam and case-based discussions of sports medicine clinical problems.

At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to: • Evaluate and treat the common musculoskeletal problems of the physically active patient, including pediatric and adolescent athletes.• Evaluate and treat knee and hip osteoarthritis• Understand the appropriate usage of musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging• Incorporate physical activity counseling and promotion into their primary care practice

Who Should Attend:The program is designed for family physicians, general internists, pediatricians and other health care professionals who provide primary care for patients participating in sports.
