ADRIÁN RONDA-SAMPAYO Adrián Ronda-Sampayo is very active musician working with numerous musical ensembles and projects in the Valencia area of Spain. He currently serves as the musical director and conductor of the La Safor Instrumental Ensemble, the Associació Artísticomusical Sant Blai of Potríes Concert Band, the Unió Musical d'Albaida Concert Band, and the Associació Musical Santa Cecilia of Ador Chorale. He is also the founder and musical director of the symphonic video game project, Games & Symphonies. In 2013 the Associació Artísticomusical Sant Blai of Potríes Concert Band won the First Prize in the Valencia Provincial Band Competition under his direction. Also in that year, maestro Ronda won First Prize in the London Classical Orchestra Soloists International Conductors Competition. In 2014 he was awarded Spain’s Euterpe Award for his first recorded album, Sons de la Terra. In 2015 and 2016 he served as guest conductor of the Agrupació Filarmónica Borrianenca Concert Band, and the Societat Musical St. Cecila d'Alcàsser Concert Band, all in Spain. He also guest conducted with the Veracruz Symphonic Band in Mexico, and with the Kammerphilharmonie Graz in Austria. This is Adrián’s second appearance at Ferris State University, following a brief visit in 2015 where he conducted rehearsals, performed educational clinics with area school band programs, and gave a presentation with Dr. Cohen on the unique band world of Valencia, Spain. FSU students can continue to develop their musical skills and be prepared for a rewarding musical “life after college” by participating in Ferris’ musical ensembles that include both university students and members of the community – the format of the majority of community ensembles throughout the country. In this way, we aspire to inspire all FSU students to continue to enrich their lives and the lives of others as active performers of music – for life! Every summer, the band presents an outdoor concert series on Wednesday evenings for six weeks as the FSU Community Summer Band, which holds rehearsals on Monday evenings in the Music Center on FSU’s main campus. We encourage and invite all experienced players of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments to join the band!
