Question: How do I stay motivated and keep my New Years resolution when it comes to weight loss? Answer: STAY POSITIVE - Talk yourself into a positive mood by continually telling yourself that you can do it. We can actually convince ourselves to succeed or fail by what we tell ourselves. Another good avenue to help you stay positive is to pick out a very positive workout partner. By doing this you could both encourage and motivate each other.

STAY ACTIVE - Be sure to get plenty of activity. This is one of the most important aspects of keeping weight off. Do your best to stay active in your life. A suggestion would be to get involved in some of the programs and fitness classes at Premiere. A really good opportunity starting in January is the ACMC Health For Life program. It is open to members

and the public with plenty of rewards for contest winners. You could also try a personal trainer to reach your goals. They can be a valuable resource in helping you move forward mentally and physically by encouraging you to stay on track toward a healthier you.

NUTRITION - Use the food pyramid. Eat a variety of food to get all of the nutrition you need. Give your self a cheat day or a cheat meal. Try not to deprive yourself of the foods you love. If they

are not healthy choices, eat them in moderation. Do not skip meals. Start with a nutritious breakfast and eat several small meals a day to speed your metabolism. Keep a food journal. You would be surprised to see how many calories you are actually eating throughout the day. You bite it, you write it! Drink eight, eight-ounce glasses of water a day.

TAKE TIME FOR YOU - Taking time for yourself helps you accomplish more and stay motivated. Even though you are exercising and eating healthy you still need to reward yourself for your accomplishments. Stop by the Premiere Salon and see what packages they have to reward yourself, such as a massage, facial, new hair cut, style or a manicure and a pedicure. Reward yourself with things that make you happy and make your life less stressful. Make your reward fun. Avoid making your reward food. Try Yoga. It helps relieve stress and helps control hunger while making you stronger, flexible and more balanced physically and mentally. Meditating and clearing your mind will also help relax you and focus more on every day routines. If you fall off the wagon just hop right back on. Take each day at a time with small goals and remember to take at least 15 minutes of alone time. YOU are the most important item on your To Do list!

DIGITAL MAMMOGRAPHY AT ACMCAdvanced Technology. Here in Ashtabula. Mammography is the gold standard test for diagnosing breast cancer.ACMC is proud to offer digital mammography technology. Over half a million dollars has been invested in bringing digital mammography technology to Ashtabula County Medical Center. The new mammography equipment will provide our community with the most current technology in breast imaging. ACMC President and CEO Michael Habowski said, “The investment in digital mammography represents our dedication to providing the best diagnostic tools for our physicians and patients. The new equipment provides better images and gives physicians more control over what they see on the screen. It also makes the test safer and more comfortable for patients.” Since there is no waiting for film to be developed, the technologist can evaluate the quality of the images as they are taken. The image brightness, darkness, or contrast can all be adjusted so the physician can more easily distinguish between breast tissue and cancerous cells. Another added benefit of digital mammography is that patients spend less time in the exam room, and patients rarely need to return for repeat images due to under- or over-exposures.

The benefits of digital mammography:

* Ability to adjust the contrast and brightness to improve image quality* Ability to see the image immediately - no film to be developed* Optimal compression of the breast for the best results and patient comfort* Reduced exposure to radiation during the exam* Computer Assisted Diagnosis alerts physicians to specific area of the image* Ability to view multiple images on the screen for comparison

If further testing is needed, stereotactic breast biopsy is now available at ACMC. Stereotactic biopsy uses a small needle and numbing of that area of the breast, rather than by making an incision in the breast in the operating room while the patient is under general anesthesia.
