Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading:

Wisdom 12:13, 16-19 The book of Wisdom was writ-ten about 50 years before Christ. In one lengthy section of this book, the author looks back to the wonderful things God did for the Jewish people at the time of the exodus. In today’s passage from that section, we hear the author speak directly to God with words of praise.

Second Reading: Romans 8:26-27

We continue today to read from the eighth chapter of Romans, in which Paul discusses the role of God’s Spirit in our life. Today’s brief reading gives us a remarka-ble insight into prayer.

We are happy to welcome Fr. John Prochaska back to Christ the King ~ his home parish. We are grateful for his wonderful example of serving God’s people ~ at this point in his life … in Peru! This summer I have been reading a few books about Mother Teresa. I would like to share some of Mother Teresa’s words with you: Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always

start with the person nearest you. If you want to change the world, go home and love your family. Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you with-

out leaving happier. Wherever God has put you, that is your vocation. It is not what we

do - but how much love you put into it. Peace begins with a smile. The more you have, the more occupied you are. The less you have,

the more free you are. God never sends you into a situation alone. God goes before you.

He stands beside you. He walks behind you. Whatever situation you have right now, be confident. God is with you.

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten we belong to

each other. We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do. The problem with our world is that we draw the circle of family too

small. If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one. If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor dis-

grace, because you know what you are. If we really want to love, we must learn how to forgive. What I can do, you cannot. What you can do, I cannot. But togeth-

er we can do something beautiful for God. Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suf-

fering and the lonely right there where you are - in your own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and in your schools. You can find Calcutta all over the world, if you have the eyes to see. Everywhere, wherever you go, you find people who are unwanted, unloved, uncared for, just rejected by society - completely forgotten, completely left alone.

Mother Teresa’s Humility List: 1. Speak as little as possible about yourself. 2. Keep busy with your own affairs and not those of others. 3. Avoid curiosity. 4. Accept contempt, being forgotten and disregarded. 5. Accept small irritations with good humor. 6. Do not dwell on the faults of others. 7. Accept censures even if unmerited. 8. Give in to the will of others. 9. Accept insults and injuries. 10. Be courteous and delicate even when provoked by someone. Sr. Dominic-Marie, O.P.

Pray for Our Sick Dear God, we place our worries in your hands.

We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you

restore your servants to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to

acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love

of us. Amen. Jeff Garzella, Franz Hinken

Fr. John Prochaska joins us this weekend from his ministry at 13,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes. Fr. John grew up in our parish, is a graduate of CTK and DLS schools, and is a priest of the Diocese of Oakland. We welcome him as he shares some of his experiences and speaks about the people to whom he ministers in Peru. Donations from today’s sec-ond collection will help provide food and clothing to the elderly and chil-dren who have very little, and help with some other projects. Envelopes are available in the vestibule. Checks should be written to Christ the King, with a note in the memo, “Ministry of Fr. John in Peru”. May God bless you for your generosity.

CTK will once again be helping Monument Crisis Center fulfill their commitment to supply under-served, at-risk school age chil-dren, with a new backpack! This year they would greatly appreciate donations of new, empty back-packs.

For the K-5 graders: cartoon characters, super heroes and princess backpacks are such a treat

for this age group.

For our Middle School/High School age students:

STURDY backpacks: Black, or any color JanSports are a great favorite. Please NO SOLID RED OR NAVY

BLUE BACKPACKS.

We have barrels in our vestibule here at church to collect the back-packs, or you can drop them off at the parish office.

Backpack Donations gratefully accepted now through August 6th.

Cash donations also greatly appreciated.
