Greetings Bellmead Citizens:

B E L L M E A D ’ S BLOOMING! The end of 2013 is near and the holidays are upon us.

I would like to take this time to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season, a very Merry Christmas and a superb New Year with blessings that last all year long!

Experts predict that the population in Tex-as will grow by about 500,000 people per year for the next 20 and more years. That is a lot of people, but Texas is a large state.

How does Bellmead fit into this future? Experts predict that although Texas is large, almost all of the growth is expect-ed to be along Interstate 35 and east citing cities such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Temple and the Waco area (in-cluding Bellmead) as the area where almost all of this growth will occur.

Bellmead leaders are taking this into account and preparing for the smooth growth and all of the economic changes that come with it.

Bel lmead’s future i s b r i g h t b e c a u s e BELLMEAD MEANS BUSINESS!

Our November City Council meeting was Nov. 12. The agenda was long with a lot of focus being on the Bellmead Police De-partment.

We opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a public comment

Bellmead updateperiod to allow the public to address the Council on issues that are not on the agenda.

Each speaker is al-lowed up to three min-utes to speak. Minutes from previous meetings were passed and the regular agenda went as follows:

• We had the final read-ings to adopt an ordi-nance to change Wilder Street into a two-way street between Ashle-man and Kane and to approve the new annual rate review for Atmos Energy accepting negoti-ated rate adjustments.

• The Council cast its votes for Councilman Gary Moore to serve on the McLennan County Appraisal District Board of Directors and selected Kathleen Dow to contin-ue as our Municipal Court Judge. Judge Dow has served in the Bellmead Court since 1997.

• We provided strong support for the police department agreeing to allow the city manager to contract with Motorola for dispatch consoles and contract with Document Solutions for a copier lease at the police de-partment.

We authorized the pur-chase of two ticket writ-ers with a maintenance contract, new body cam-eras with the help of a grant, new duty flash-lights for the safety of our police officers and new replacement police badges.

The Bellmead Police Department was also approved to receive new Computer Aided Dis-patch equipment with a

100% grant. We then adjusted our

current year budget to reflect the grant awards.

• The Counci l re -viewed and accepted the Bellmead Investment report. All city funds are in safe and secure inter-est bearing accounts. The financial strength of the city is strong, which helps us to have a strong future ahead of us.

• We received a grant to replace water meters and selected an engineer firm to assist us with the installation of the new meters.

We selected BSP En-gineers to assist us with this task. We have a strong relationship with them and know that they will do a good job for us.

• Our final agenda item for a replacement door at the fire station was delayed. More research and information may be needed for a proper deci-sion on this.

Bellmead is a nice little town with a lot of great things to do very close by.

As you enjoy your holi-days with family and close friends consider showing them around to some of our cool and fun attractions that are nearby.

I am honored and proud to serve you and this great community.

I thank you for the priv-ilege of allowing me to serve. Again, have a safe and wonderful holiday season and a beautiful day in Bellmead!

Storm Water notice

The City of Bellmead Public Works Depart-ment suggests that resi-dents and businesses be informed about storm water pollution.

Storm water ultimately ends up in lakes and rivers. This water is con-verted to irrigation and drinking water in some areas and communities. Preventing storm water pollution• K e e p l i t t e r, p e t

wastes, leaves and debris out of street gutters and storm drains. These outlets drain directly to the creek, lake or river.

• Apply lawn and gar-den chemicals spar-ingly and according to directions.

• Dispose of unused oil, antifreeze, paints

and other household chemicals properly, not in storm sewers or drains.

• Clean up spilled brake fluid, oil, grease and antifreeze.

• Do not hose them into the street where they can eventually reach the creek or river.

• Control soil erosion on your property by planting ground cover and stabilizing erosion-prone areas.

• Purchase house-hold detergents and cleaners that are low in phosphorous to reduce the amount of nutrients discharged into surface waters.

• Notify the City of Bellmead of any un-authorized discharg-es to the storm sewer system.
