1 Project Details

1.1 Description1.1.1 Upallo Khimti Hydroelectric Project-12 MW

Upallo Khimti Hydropower Project (UKHP) 12 MW is located mostly in Chuchure VDC of Ramechhap distric, Janakpur Zone, Central Development Region of Nepal. The project area is located between longitudes 86o 19' 20" E to 86o 21' 40" E and latitudes 27o 39' 24" N to 27o 41' 54" N. The project components are located between elevations of 2003 m to 2303 m.

UKHP is a peaking run-of-river hydropower project. Intake is located at near the junction of Ghwang Khola and Khimti at altitude of 2300m form MSL, where water is taken from the Khimti River.

The project will exploit a gross head of approx. 300 m on the Khimti river over a reach of about 3.5 km along the left bank of river to the tailrace outlet near Gifasa village of altitude of about 2000m form MSL. The surface powerhouse is located near Gifasa village and two horizontal axis Pelton turbine/generating units are to be installed, each of rated capacity 6.0 MW. At the installed capacity of 12 MW, it is estimated that the average annual energy production will be 73.61 GWh.

1.1.2 Upper Khimti Hydroelectric Project -7 MW

Upper Khimti-II Hydroelectric Project (UKHP-II) 7 MW is a cascade RoR type of scheme located just downstream of Upallo Khimti Hydropower Project, 12MW located in Ramechhap district. The project components are located in left bank of Khimti Khola within Chuchure VDC. The project area is located between longitudes 860 18’10”E to 860 20’10”E and latitude 270 38’20” N to 270 39’55” N.

Water is taken from the Khimti River at the intake of the Upallo Khimti and is passed through the Upallo Khimti project Powerhouse and delivered directly to the Intake of the Upper Khimti project. The only source of water for the Upper Khimti project is that which passes through the Power Station of the Upallo Khimti project, albeit supplemented to a small degree with additional water from a small tributary joined with Khimti below the HW of Upallo Khimti and diverted into the Intake of the Upper Khimti Powerhouse.

3 Monthly Report Executive Summary

3.1 Introduction

Monthly Report No. 1 has been prepared by the Technical Team up to end of Shrawan 2072.

3.2 General

The Company is continuing with the land acquisition and track opening of Access road. The various protection works on the road is continue. Staff recruitment has been done, but still more will be recruited to start of the construction work in full fledged from Mangsir 2072.

Construction monitoring and oversight continues with the presence of the technical staff at site. Now, one Project Manager, one Civil Engineer, one Assistance Surveyor and one Sub Overseer form the technical parts followed by Administrative Manager, one Account, one Admin Assistance are working at site. The number of construction management staff at site is expected to increase significantly at site after the rainy season as work will be expedited soon.

3.3 Engineering Design

With the appointment of CEC as designed consultant the updated feasibility of both project has completed on dated Jestha 31, 2071. The consultant are preparing details project reports and drawing for construction.

3.4 Effect of Earthquake in Project

In 12th Baisakh 2072 Nepal earthquake (also known as the Gorkha earthquake) killed more than nine thousands people and injured many people. After first earth quake, working team has demobilized form the site on 15 Baiskak, but team was re-mobilized on 26 Baishak. Unfortunately, a major aftershock occurred on 29th Baisakh 2072. The epicenter was Sunkhani, Dolakha which is near our projects site. It is human nature and difficult to hold the staff at site, then site staffs demobilized on 1st Jestha 2072. Company able to re-mobilize the staff at site only on 16th Jestha.

The earthquake and its after sucks make the disturbance in the project more than one month’s directly. All the camp building rented and renovated were damaged by earthquake. The site staffs were mobilized at site on 16th Jeatha but it was very difficult time to continue the work at site. Lack of accommodation facilities, psychology of working people made difficult to continue the work effectively. Immediately after that rainy season started. Approximately two months of working time is disturbed due to earth quake. Fortunately, there is not any major destruction like landslide on the headwork, alignment and powerhouse besides one land slide.

4 Land Acquisition and Access Road Construction

4.1 Land Acquisition

Upallo Khimti HEP-12 MWThe land acquisition works nearly completed for pipe alignment and access road of UKHP. The total area of private land need to be procured was 32-2-3-2. Out of this 30-3-1-0 is already procured. The rest of land area is public land and need to be leased form the GoN which is under progress.

Upallo Khimti HEP-7 MWThe land acquisition works nearly completed for pipe alignment and access road of UKHP. The total area of private land need to be procured was 42-8-2-3 Out of this 39-9-1-0 is already procured. The rest of land area is public land and need to be leased form the GoN which is under progress.

4.2 Land Leasing

The land leasing and clearance for the forest already proceeded. The entire document for the processes is already submitted. Now document is under revision at Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation.

4.3 Access Road Construction

The access road construction was started on 11 Chaitra 2071. The road construction is done by Company itself. Out of 8.5km access road approximately 5 km track opening is already completed and 1.5 km road has already gravelled and prepared for all weather.

There are two khola crossing called Chake and Garjung. Causeway construction work at Chake Khola has already completed. The hume pipe causeway has constructed using hume pipe, gabion and masonry. River training works at Garjyang has also done for this rainy session, but the strengthening and making of gabion causeway will be done after rainy season.

The cross drainage work is also being at different Chainage. Details of cross drainage work completed are presented in the table 4.1.

Protection work at for the land slide is being near chainage of 1+500. The gabion and catch drain is constructing for this. The construction of catch drain is almost completed but gabion construction work is continue.

5 Camp House Construction

All the camp house and office constructed and rented are destroyed during the devastation earthquake. The company has already constructed the temporary camp at Gargang Village of Chuchure VDC for the temporary purpose after the big earthquake. All the site staff are living on the same building now.

For the permanent camp house, company has already procured the land near Jifasa Villange of Chuchure VDC. The location is near by the powerhouse area of UKHP and intake of UKHP-II. Construction of camp house will be started soon under Lot-1 contract. The contractor has already selected and mobilized at site on date 8th Bhadra 2072.

6 Construction Power

6.1 Study of Reliability of Power Available at Site

Power availability and reliability study was conducted from 6th Shrawan 2072 to 11th Shrawan 2072 for site. Study included condition of existing 11 kV Jiri –Those feeder, available power sources at Jiri 33/11 KV substation and at Charikot 33/11 KV substation. Study also included power availability at site for construction works during off peak time and peak time (5:30 PM -9:30 PM), frequency of occurrence of fault in existing 11 kV feeder from which we are planning to tap for our energy requirements. From overall, data collected at Jiri substation, it was seen that power is available for our requirement during off peak time and reliability is also seen satisfactory. Even though, some rectification works such as bush cutting, maintain of line to ground clearance, stay installation and other minor works has to carry out for making existing 11 kV line more reliable. This is will be carried out during installation of 11 KV line for our construction works.

6.2 Procurement of Material

Document to request quotation for materials of construction power has already been prepared and issued to potential suppliers for Mechanical items, Electrical items, Conductor and ABC cable and for distribution transformers. Purchase order of construction power materials will be issued soon.

6.3 Construction of Construction Power

Construction of construction power is in initial stage. Preliminary survey was conducted along the alignment of UKHP, 12 MW and UKHP-II, 7 MW projects for 11 KV Line to verify BoQ provided by the consultant. It is planning to install 11 KV lines for the projects in coordination with NEA’s DCS office Jiri and Charikot. Construction power construction schedule has also been prepared.

7 Civil Works

7.1 Preliminary Works

No Preliminary works have been done.

7.2 Tender Documents

The tender documents preparation works is being and the tender will be announced after tender document is ready.

7.3 Construction Materials Survey

Technical team of Himalaya Urja Bikash Company has visited the possible sources of construction materials especially for course and fine aggregate its quantity and quality. Basically two sites, Male and Olane, are selected. Both course (boulder from course aggregate) and fine aggregate are available at Mela, whereas only fine aggregate are available at Olane. However lab test of these materials has not done till yet.

7.4 Detailed Time Programme

The preliminary Detailed Schedule is prepared for the civil works construction which is attached in Appendix-2.

8 Lot 3 Contract – Electromechanical Works




Final tender document preparation has been completed. International Invitation to Bid for Electro-Mechanical works will be announced soon only for shortlisted suppliers.

9 Lot 4 Contract – Hydro Mechanical Works



9.2 Procurement of Metals

Latter of Credit has already opened on date 29th June 2015 for the procurement of metals plate. Based on that LC date, expected dispatch of metal plates from factory for hydro mechanical works will be on 15th September 2015.


The tender documents for installation and fabrication is ready and will be announced soon.

11 Social Mitigation

The company has allocated some budget in IEE for the social responsibility. Till date the company has already signed the MOU with the following institution for the intuitional support of those local institutions

12 Financial Status

The financial agreement was signed with consortium bank lead by Nabil Bank including Nepal Bank, Everest Bank and Ace Development Bank on 23 Masigar 2071 for UKHP, 12 and on 3 Chaitra 2071 for UKHP-II, 7 MW. Based on the consortium agreement, details cost breakdown for individual particular is presented in table 12.1.
