“Liric”—June 1, 1998– october 21, 2012
It hurts to lose a beloved dog, especially when youhave to make the choice to let go. But that last act offriendship was the most caring thing we could havedone for Liric. We rescued the sweetest tuxedo kitten in 2007 afterlosing our first cat to cancer. Tuxey became our world,we loved having him as our baby. At only three yearsold, Tuxey suddenly got sick one day and within hourswas gone. We never found out what happened to himand to this day our hearts are broken. We have sincerescued two more babies as I am sure Tuxey wouldhave wanted us to continue to rescue. But there isn’ta day that goes by that we don’t think about and missour little boy.

THE REnAISSAnCE PRoJECT
Now in its 13th year, this programpairs our younger dogs with at riskteens from Boys’ Totem Town, StPaul, MN. The teens train the dogswho will then partner with Homefor Life volunteers to provide pettherapy to the elderly, families im-pacted by domestic abuse, hospicepatients and patients at the University ofMinnesota Medical Center-Fairview, andthe Minneapolis Veteran’s AdministrationMedical Center Poly-Trauma Unit.
SIT*STAy*HEAL
This program began as an initiative to pro-vide solace and joy through healing pettherapy to pediatric patients at the FairviewUniversity Hospitals who are undergo-ing treatment for cancer and other serioushealth conditions.
Sit*Stay*Heal has now expanded to serve:
• Adult critical care patients at Fairview uni-versity Hospital’s cardiac and oncology floors.
• Adult and pediatric, adolescent and adult pa-tients at Fairview university Hospital receiv-ing treatment for mental health conditions.
• Patients receiving hospice care through AseraCare at various facilities in the Twin Cities.
• Injured veterans from the Iraq and Afghani-stan conflicts receiving treatment at the Min-neapolis VA Medical Center’s Polytrauma unit,one of just four such units in the country.
