Developed at McMaster University’s medical school in Canada (2004)• Multi-sampling technique
• Can evaluate variety of traits/attributes in quick succession
• Structured format helps to reduce bias1
Support• Predictive of performance on clinical skills exam for licensure over personal essay, traditional interview,
and GPA2
• Helped in residency selection when assessing interpersonal and community skills = moderate correlation
between MMI interpersonal score and OSCE communication score3
• Older age and female both associated with better MMI scores in a multi-institutional study4
• Other studies show no differences between demographic groups and performance
