In exercise of the powers conferred on the Syndicate by virtue of section 36 of the Kerala University Act 1974,the Syndicate at its meeting held on 21-1-2017 have made the following amendments to the Kerala University FirstOrdinances, 1978.

AMENDMENT

“That, in the Schedule given to Ordinance 3 Chapter XVII “Scales of Pay, Qualification etc. of various posts inthe University”, after serial number 144 B of the Kerala University First Ordinances, 1978 the title given as “UniversityService and Instrumentation Centre” be substituted to read as follows:

“Sophisticated Instrumentation and Computation centre (SICC).”

The Academic Council at its meeting held on 4th October 2016, considered and resolved to approve the followingamendment to the Regulations relating to Recognition of Examinations and Degrees of State Boards/Statutory Universities/Deemed Universities/other Institutions.

REGULATIONS FOR THE POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES UNDER ANNUAL PATTERN, 2016

The Academic Council at its meeting held on 4th October 2016, considered and noted the action taken by theVice-Chancellor in having approved the following Regulations for the Post Graduate Programmes under Annual Pattern,2016, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by virtue of section 10 (13) of the Kerala University Act, 1974.

Regulations for the post-graduate programmes under annual pattern - 2016

1. ScopeThe Regulations framed herein shall apply to all Post Graduate Programmes under the Faculties of Science, Social

Science, Arts, Fine Arts, Oriental Studies and Commerce conducted under Annual pattern.2. Eligibility for Admission

2.1. Eligibility for admission for various Post-Graduate Programmes shall be determined strictly in accordance with theRules, Guidelines and Regulations framed by the University from time to time.

2.2. Re-admissionRe-admission to the PG course under Annual pattern shall be granted only in the commencement of Programmeevery year, as notified by the University.

2.3. Candidate shall have to cancel the prior registration and secure fresh registration, in case of change in scheme andsyllabi.

3. Duration3.1. Normal duration of PG degree Programme under annual pattern shall be two years.3.2. Examinations shall be conducted every year towards the end of academic period as specified and notified by the

University.4. Scheme and Syllabus

4.1. Syllabus and scheme for each course under annual pattern shall be framed by Board of Studies (PG) in the subjectconcerned.

4.2. Contents of the syllabi for all courses shall be same as those of regular courses in the respective subjects ofstudy, as approved by the Faculty and Academic Council.

4.3. Distribution of marks for each course shall be equal and the aggregate marks of all the courses shall be 1800.4.4. There shall be an Essay paper of three hour duration carry 100 marks and the candidate shall have to choose one

question from among five choices provided, having the coverage and five subjects studies during the second year.4.5. Comprehensive viva-voce shall be conducted for all the candidates in each course at the end of second year, for

which the maximum marks shall be 100.5. Evaluation

5.1. Evaluation of each couse shall be done in two parts viz. a) PART I; and b) PART 25.2. Distribution of marks shall be 75% for PART I and 25% for PART 2.5.3. There shall be no separate minimum required for a pass in respect of PART I and PART 2.5.4. Candidate shall have to obtain a minimum of 40% in aggregate for PART I and PART 2 together for a pass.5.5. Question papers for PART I shall be set in the same pattern as followed for regular courses, covering entire

syllabus in the respective subjects of study.5.6. Written examination of each paper in PART I shall be of three hour duration carrying 75 marks with the exception

for Essay paper carrying 100 marks.5.7. Question papers for the written examination of PART 2 shall contain 50 MCQs each of one hour duration for each

paper carrying 25 marks and shall have coverage of entire syllabus in the respective subject of study.6. Classification of Results

Classification of results of the PG Programme under annual pattern shall be done at the end of second year, based onthe total marks secured for the examination in two years as stated below.

Candidates securing not less than 40% but below 50% - Third classCandidates securing not less than 50% but below 60% - Second classCandidates securing 60% and above - First ClassCandidates securing 75% and above - First Class with Distinction

7. Re-appearance of Failed Candidates7.1. Candidates who fail in one paper or more papers shall be permitted to re-appear for the respective paper or papers

along with the subsequent batch of candidates appearing for the University Examination.7.2. Candidates who have failed in the examination shall have to re-appear only for the papers (PART I & PART 2) in

which they have failed to secure required minimum marks for a pass.8. Betterment of Results

8.1. Betterment of results for obtaining higher percentage of marks shall be allowed only after securing the degree andthat too subject to the general rules followed in the University in respect of betterment of results such as,maximum of two chances for a programme.

8.2. Candidates for betterment of result shall have to take the examinations as per the Scheme and Syllabus in force.9. Transitory Provisions

Notwithstanding anything contained in the these regulations, the Vice-Chancellor shall, for a period of two years fromthe date of coming into force of these regulations, have the powers to provide by order that these regulations shall beapplied to any PG Programme with such modifications, as may be necessary.

Regulations for the Post Graduate Programmes under Annual Pattern, 2016, was laid before the Senate at its meetingheld on 21st February, 2017, vide item No. II (04) for consideration and adoption as envisaged under section 39(1) of theKerala University Act, 1974 and the same was approved.
