Travel & LearnThe Travel & Learn program is a unique and one of the latest additions to our initiatives. We believe that academic learning should be aligned with the needs of the industry so that students are equipped with the skill set required to meet the demands and challenges of competition. This gap can be narrowed down through a coordinated approach ensuring closer interactions among industry, institutions and the academia.

The Travel & Learn program helps students to imbibe the practical financial knowledge through means of short industry visits and training sessions. A training session explaining the core activities and know-how helps the students to understand the industry better.

The program received overwhelming response last year and students had the opportunity to visit the following reputed institutions:

• MCX-SX• Care Ratings• Nomura• HDFC fund• Kotak Mahindra Bank

• SEBI

CorporateRelationship ProgrammeWhile the value of academic input cannot be undermined, a full-fledged program to give a flavour of corporate world to the students is crucial for an inclusive development. The corporate relations program has been initiated to extend corporate association with the industry and provide students with a firsthand experience of the same.

There is always an endeavour to create opportunities for the inquisitive students to interact and learn from the industry experts. Such interactions also give the prospective recruiters a chance to gauge the student’s knowledge and understanding of the subjects and fundamentals of finance and help them make the best decisions.

This initiative is a student-driven program and the various ways in which we establishes our association with corporate are as follows:

• Travel & Learn programme• Guest lectures and Workshop Series• Corporate Leadership Series• Panel Discussions Series• Live projects

21

WorkshopsWorkshops give us hands on experience of the standard operational tools and real practices used in the industry ,which act as medium to implement our learnings more efficiently. There have been various workshops conducted in the past to make us familiar with the most frequently used tools. These include workshops on SPSS, Eviews, MS Excel, Case studies on equity research etc.

Corporate Leadership SeriesWe at DFS recognize that it takes more than just the knowledge imparted within the confines of a classroom to produce leaders. For this purpose we conduct a series of interactive sessions with key executives and corporate leaders of the industry.

The aim of the exercise is to have our students interact with the leaders and achievers of various domains. We believe that there is much to be learned, not only in the way of the expertise and knowledge that those at the helm inevitably attain, but also in the way of their journey and experiences.

Not only is the programme beneficial, it is also motivating for the students to interact with the personalities that they strive to emulate.

Live projects Short term live industry projects try to bridge the gap between theory and practice .The mid semester break offers us the right opportunity to focus on such projects though students have also engaged themselves on weekends to get insightful industry exposure. Mfc students are equipped with right skills to adapt quickly to the industry needs. The students recently completed their projects at some of the esteemed organizations like Accenture (Global Analytics), Jones Lang Lasalle and Dun & Bradstreet India etc.

Panel DiscussionsPanel Discussions provide a forum for professionals from an industry to come together, onto a common platform to discuss developments and challenges of the present day in their domain.

Such discussions have been instrumental in linking academia with industry at DFS. Students are provided an opportunity to witness interaction between experts and are able to gain comprehensive knowledge about issues.

The department has been host to a number of productive discussions ranging from Capital Markets to Real Estate, Mutual Funds & Analytics.

DFS recently hosted a panel discussion on the emerging trend of Financial Analytics and Business Analytics. The speakers with their vast knowledge and experience in the industry briefed the students about the need of analytics in the business and financial world and how analytics has fuelled growth in varied sectors.

DFS hosted panel discussions as a part of the Annual Convention and HR Conclave.

22

Guest LecturesAs a part of our Guest Lecture series we invite experts from different industry verticals to come and share their knowledge and expertise with student participants.

Interactive sessions with professionals allow students to keep abreast with domain advances and challenges in the industry. This helps them to understand practical aspects of the imparted theoretical knowledge and hone their abilities to assume specialist roles in organisations.

Such interactions also provide prospective recruiters an opportunity to fairly gauge the student’s aptitude as well as their knowledge and understanding of the subjects and fundamentals of finance and management.
