Multidisciplinary Research

DIGITAL SOCIETYWe live in a digitalized society, in which digital technology is applied in multiple contexts: education, entertainment, working life and leisure. In a digital society, networking and the utilization of existing networks in day-to-day operations are accentuated. Networked operations are supported by wide databases, complex data network structures and the services built on them. Research collaboration between Tampere University of Technology and University ofTurku, School of Cultural Production and Landscape Studies focuses on these themes.

ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTEnergy and environment are in complex mutual interaction: production of energy affects the environment we live in while environment constitutes inexhaustible source of energy. Besides material values, human environment also involves our experiences and social activities. In UCPori various aspects of the relations between energy and environment are studied such as monitoring and modeling of environment using remote sensing technologies, environmental effects of maritime businesses, and landscape studies.

KNOWLEDGE-INTENSIVE ORGANIZATIONS IN NETWORKSIn current digital and service-oriented era, increasing number of organizations are dependent on knowledge workers and their expertise as they operate in dynamic networks. This context provides a number of interesting research areas, for example knowledge-based organizations, new business models in networks and dynamic business relationships.

Multidisciplinary research is looking for new research questions at the interfaces between disciplines.

GAMIFICATIONGamification means applying game dynamics and mechanics in different contexts, such as web services, education and work life. Gamification plays an important role in many ongoing research projects at UCPori. A joint professorship in gamification will be established at UCPori in 2016, administered by Tampere university of Technology and University of Turku.

SOCIAL COHESIONSocial cohesion is a concept referring to the collective well-being of societies - equal distribution of welfare and well-being among various groups and regions. Social cohesion may contribute for example to health, cultural well-being and economic prosperity. Research collaboration among University of Tampere and University of Turku, School of Cultural Production and Landscape Studies focuses on these topics.
