Newsletter May - June 2014 From the Board President And Finally ... SPRING Spring is always a wonderful time of year! The colorful flowers begin to bloom, the grass turns from the dull brown to a gorgeous green, and the trees sprout their fresh new leaves. The birds begin to sing their cheerful songs, while the bunnies hop and the squirrels scamper to and fro. I do not think I am alone this year in being more grateful than ever for the warming of spring! Unity of Harrisburg also is feeling its collective spirit awaken to the liveliness of summer. We have already been gifted with a beautiful Easter Service and a lively bingo with a variety of baskets filled with goodies. As we approach the warmer seasons, let us each allow our hearts to warm as well, and fill with more excitement, more eagerness to move forward. Spring is bringing many delightful events our way. We are looking forward to our yard sale in order to recycle whatever no longer serves us, followed by some stimulating new speakers in May, June and July. In August, it will be time for our ever-popular Health and Wellness Day! Our first silent retreat, with Rev. Robert Brumet, will be held later that month. Spring is a great time to be in Central Pennsylvania at our home here at Unity of Harrisburg. Come and join us for the fun! May brings Charles to us again with his soulful music, as well as our choir and Kate to lift our spirits. Claudia Carawan is a wonderfully talented and moving speaker and musician, coming to us from Northern Virginia. In June, we welcome Jonathan back with his many flutes and always surprising instruments. Seasons brings their lovely melodies, and the choir and Kate entertain us once more. Dana will be speaking and singing for us during Sunday service, then will delight us with his music during our potluck in Fellowship Hall following the service.
Our Drum Circle is the last Sunday of the month in May, from 12-1 pm. Dana will be leading a special Drum Circle on Saturday, June 28 at 7 pm in the sanctuary.
Unity Library Featured Books The Vortex Shift by Mario De Ferrari I am rating this from its value as metaphysical speculation and a look at what may well be an upward evolution of mankind. We are all familiar, I'm sure, with talk about the new generation of "Twilight Children." This takes the theory of current evolutionary advancements further and postulates that older generations, senior citizens in particular, are also partaking in this evolution. The concept should be familiar to those who saw the movie Cocoon. However, this delves deeper into the spiritual evolution of mankind. All this is explained to us by some very likeable fictional characters such as Barbara, an 88 year old woman who is apparently in her 60's going on 40 something.
The primary character, a painter in his mid 40's, is going through a spiritual crisis and is led to a group of seniors who explain to him what is happening in his life and guide him in dealing with it. These partic-ular seniors are definitely evolving and in doing so, have ceased to age. Four select seniors are actually regressing in their ages, quite dramatically so.
