don't bring super-size squirt guns to class. A T-shirt will be given to each of the students and designed to identify the United States Power Squadron, along with our website listed on the back. Obviously, we are hoping the shirt will grab the parent’s attention and pique their interests in learning who we are, what fun we have, and of course, our 1st class education classes. The spark did not burn out upon achieving classes at Atwood. The spark ignited bigger and we are in the process of investigating other avenues for classes. Lt/C Karen Long offered to contact Berlin, D/Lt Joanne Hancock, SN to call on State Parks, and Lt/C Dave Guertal, P to contact Perry Local Schools. A "thank you" doesn't seem enough to show my gratitude for everyone's enthusiasm and willingness to help put a spark back in our squadron! Howev-er, a huge THANK YOU to all of you! Boating season is here - Get those boats out and "Let's Go"!

The lakes are ready to entertain power boaters, sail boaters, kayakers, pad-dle boaters, jet skiers, and of course the geese. Ves-sels Safety Checks will be ramping up, as well as the
renowned Cooperative Charters, D/Lt/C Tom Hancock, P and D/Lt Joanne Han-cock. SN. We will have one more picnic meeting at Price Park on1 June and then Power Squadron meetings will temporar-ily be set aside to enjoy summer boating. Our last several meetings ended on a high note. P/C Fritz Spring lit a needed spark under us that got a simmering pot to a boil. He got us brainstorming how we can become more active in the com-munity. Fritz informed us Atwood would be holding two summer camping ses-sions for boys. Upon contacting Atwood and introducing the idea of our squadron teaching a class at the sessions, Atwood was receptive. P/C Chip Cassidy, JN without hesitation offered to be the in-structor. Many ideas were tossed around as to what topics would be suitable for the class. It didn't take long and an agenda for a ninety minute class was created. Chip was confident he could keep the boys attention. I hope the boys

Well, boating season is finally here. Our boat has been in the water since mid-April but the last two week-ends have been good weather for working. Much to our boat-ing disappointment Cliff and I will be attending a family wed-
ding during Memorial Day weekend. That only leaves approximately 18 weekends left! Speaking of working on the boat, make sure you get it ready for a vessel safety check by one of our inspectors. It will certainly save you time if you are stopped by the Coast Guard or other law en-forcement agency! Our inspectors are Rick and Ire-ne Rodriguez. Cathy Dunlap, Bill Wood, and John Hunter. Also, coming up on 1 June, is our Picnic at Price Park in North Canton. Pizza will be provided and everyone brings one of their favorite dishes to share. The meal begins at 1800. Come on out and start the summer season with your boating friends! I would also like to encourage everyone to con-sider coming to the Squadron rendezvous which will again be held at Sandusky Harbor on 23-25 June. Last year we had six boats from our squad-ron. Let’s see if we can add to that number. Even if you don’t have a boat, come on up for the dinner and take a ride with one of us with a boat! See de-tails on page 6. Remember that involvement equals friendship and fun so participate! Hopefully see you on the water soon and have a save boating season.

FROM THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICER Lt/C David Guertal, P
Of all the seasons; Boating is our FAVORITE!! I am sure you feel the same way we do! Our boat, Sweet Dreams, is washed, waxed, packed with safety equip-ment and creature comforts and is ready to launch! P/C Bill Wood SN, recently completed our inspection and once again we passed with flying colors. Both our Stark County Power Squadron and District 7 have ex-
citing boating rendezvous planned for this summer, and we hope you are planning on attending these activities along with us. What a great way to be with friends and enjoy the boating season together. Lori and I plan to be on our boat at least 70 days this summer, mostly on Lake Erie, but also in Saginaw Bay, in Lake Huron, and the Sturgeon Bay area in Lake Michigan. We hope we will see you on the water! Enjoy, and be safe!

2017 Maumee Bay State Park Rendezvous
Friday, 16 June to Sunday, 18 June Maumee Bay State Park is located off the Maumee River due south of the shipping channel Marker 29 about 2.5 miles away. The park monitors channel 16 or 69. You will need to make your own reservations with the park. Contact Sabrina at the front desk to make your reservation. Mention you are with the Hancock party when making your reservations and then check in at the front desk after your arrival. Dockage is $81.99/night. Any questions, feel free to call me on my cell phone: 330-418-9956. The park’s telephone number is 419-836-1466. Each dock is equipped with power and water, however, the distance to water may be a little long. Bring an extra hose and y-connection if you have them. Each dock is equipped with single 30 amp service. Bring a splitter if you require more than 1 electrical hookup. There is no bathhouse/bathroom facility located within the marina so we all will get pass keys to use the lodge facilities, available all times. If you are interested in participating in a group Friday dinner, we will go to the Oregon Inn which is located just outside the park borders. Please contact me if you are interested in dining at the Oregon Inn. We will finalize dinner travel arrangements once we are all at the park. Join us for a cookout/potluck dinner Saturday night. We will eat about 6:00 pm. There will be burgers and Italian sausage and fixings. Bring a covered dish to share. You will also need to pro-vide your own table service, beverage and plates. Cost: to be determined John Hunter is a vessel safety examiner and is available to give you a safety inspection. The in-spection lasts a few minutes and is free. See you there! Joanne and Tom Hancock
