Présentation du CFNU
The United Women’s Guild describes the origin of the UNWG as follows:” The Women’s Guild originated in Geneva, Switzerland in the early 1930s, during the era of the League of Nations. A few women whose husbands were associated with the League of Nations banded together to help children in need. They knitted warm garments and layettes for children who were suffering from ravages of war. The work continued during Second World War.
In 1945 when the United Nations was created and many families were transferred from Geneva to the new home for the organization in Lake Success, New York, a group of women met informally and decided to continue this charitable work thus establishing the United Nations Women’s Guild in March 1948. The Guild expanded. Over the years some 40 chapters were organized overseas in countries where the United Nations and its Agencies had offices”
In the autumn of 1970 a small group of women, most of whom had been active members of the UNWG in New York, held a series of meetings to consider the possibility of founding a similar group again in Geneva.
As a result of their discussion a meeting of about 50 women was held on 9 December 1970 in the American Community House at which the suggested statutes and by-laws, based mainly on those of the New York Guild, were approved. The first Executive Committee was elected.

Since then the Guild has changed locations. In 1975 the UN allocated an offi ce for our use, fi rst in the Palais itself, then in the annex at Petit Saconnex and later in 1987 at the Villa Les Feuillantines.
ILO provided us during several years with the Recreation Room for our Coffee mornings, monthly meetings, Annual General Assemblies, gym classes and Bridge afternoons.
In 1996 the Guild has been recognized as part of the clubs and associations open to international offi cers and their families by the Social and Cultural Committee of the Co-ordination Council of the UN.
According to the Statutes the Guild has three fi elds of action:1) The activities of general and cultural interest2) the fund-raising activities held in order to help needy children around the world3) the work accomplished by the Special Advisor on the Status of UN spouses, Pensions,
the one on Employment and the one done by the Public Relations Chairwoman.

Here we meet again to celebrate our most awaited event of the year, our one and only annual bazaar.Let me at the outset, acknowledge the hard work done by guild members who volunteer their time and effort for the sake of the annual bazaar, which we hope will be a great success. The contribution of the United Nations offi ce in Geneva, in preparation for this bazaar, has been nothing but remarkable. We deeply thank them for that and appreciate their efforts. The participation in the annual bazaar of diplomatic missions is also highly appreciated.Let me take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all of them. The annual bazaar is an event that provides an opportunity to all visitors to navigate through different cultures of the participating countries. The objective of this philanthropic activity is fi rst and foremost to use the revenues of the annual bazaar in order to help underprivileged children in different parts of the world, especially in developing countries. It also aims at improving the quality of their lives, particularly in areas such as health and education.Since Guild started holding such welfare events, many projects have been implemented and the lives of many children have changed to the better.Today, I can confi dently say to the volunteering ladies that, you make the change by exerting much of your time and effort most graciously for this noble cause. Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Michael Moller, director general of the United Nations Offi ce in Geneva, their excellencies the Ambassadors, the dignitaries and diplomats for their continuous support. Message by the Bazaar Chairwoman
I feel honored to have been entrusted this year with the chairmanship of the Bazaar committee 2017 of the United Nations Women Guild in Geneva. It is such a great pleasure and honor as nobody can miss how much this guild is passionate and whole-heartedly dedicated to its mission. As an Omani, I grew up in a culture of respect and tolerance so I could only feel attracted to the founding principles of the Guild, those of supporting universal values of multicultural diversity, solidarity, and above all mutual respect and tolerance between different cultures.Seeing the warm and passionate commitment of women of all over the world getting and working together around philanthropic activities could only motivate me to join this wonderful circle of bright feminine energies. With the Bazaar 2017 and as every year, the Guild invites all the countries to join their efforts to collect funds for charity programs with the aim to cover development programs for needy children in different parts of the world. How wonderful it is to see on that day people from all over the world, from different lands, different cultures and backgrounds, different ages...all getting together to offer help in fi nancing the projects through a simple gesture of discovering a different cuisine or get a souvenir from one of the country stands’ or buying a lottery ticket...this wonderful day reminds us how much it is true that «many small streams make one big river»... So, thank you all for making the rivers getting together that day to join our tide of unity and love around our children ... around our future!Thank you ladies for your wonderful work and for contributing in making not only the bazar a wonderful event but to make this guild a landmark of what our world should be at all levels: «an open welcoming space to all cultures, a place of sharing and above all a place of mutual respect and tolerance where the differences are there to create a space of complementarity and creativity»Wishing you a stunning Bazaar 2017!

Children’s Walk 2017
The first edition of the Children’s Walk was held in 2002. The Walk helps achieve one of the key goals of the UNWG, that of helping children in need around the world. The aim is to:
(1) bring awareness to the school children in Geneva participating in the Walk, that there are children not so fortunate like them in receiving education and
(2) instill in children who have everything the value of sharing with and giving to those who are not so fortunate.
The Walk is also an educational opportunity for the children to get to know the UN, its aims and programs, since the Walk takes place in the Palais grounds.
The Children’s Walk has evolved into one of the highlights of the UNWG activities. About 950 children from different schools in and around Geneva participated this year. 418 children in 20 countries have received scholarships enabling them to complete their secondary education.
A PowerPoint presentation prepared by our team member Karen Rowland, and shown for the first time in 2015, explaining the role of the Guild in processing and distributing the Walk funds. Catherine d’Arcangues, Vice-President/Projects, deals with all matters relating to these scholarships.
Friday 29 September 2017, clear sky, bright lovely day have contributed to boost the children’s enthusiasm thus making it a joyful event.
