President’s Notes I sure hope everyone is safe and healthy. Hopefully we will be able to be all together soon, but in the meantime we have to protect ourselves and each other. Everything for the summer at the present time is cancelled and as things change, we will keep everyone notified. As you know we are doing a Takeout Spaghetti and Meat ball dinners at the Moose Hall on Sunday, May 31st from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wayne Huber has stepped up to Chair this event and he has everything under control. We have been in touch with the Health Unit and we are following the guidelines. This event will help our club, as well as the Moose hall as things are tough for them with not being able to open their doors. At the present time, the club members and friends are being very supportive and we greatly appreciate their dedication as without you, all this wouldn’t work. When picking up your orders, no one has to leave their vehicle, so I feel everything should go pretty smoothly. I would just like to remind everyone that anyone is welcome to chair events, not just executive members and I know the past chair of any event would be willing to help with direction. This way it’s not always the same people doing all of the organizing. Also, everyone has to remember to go to the chairperson of the event if they have questions or ideas as it’s the CHAIRPERSON that is in charge of any particular event, not the President or anyone else. Please check your e-mails over the summer as there may be one sent to keep everyone updated as to changes.

Cathy Nevala - President UCT 1039

Birthdays

I didn’t print the birthdays in this issue, but they will all be list in the News Letter prior to our first breakfast meeting. At the present time, we will be looking at September.

Member’s Discounts

The current discounts for car rentals and hotels is still in place, like Hertz, Thrifty, Motel 6, Choice Hotels and Destination Travel Group, but the new one for Canadian members is the Northbridge Insurance for Auto & Home and it seems to be going over quite well. Give them a call, and see how well they do compare to what you are paying now. They can be reached at 1-877-683-9359 or you can contact Doug Honeyford in Sudbury at [email protected] If you happen to get a quote, I would appreciate hearing from you, so I can inform other members. The International body is always looking for more discounts for the Canadian members.

What’s Happening

As you are aware, the Covid-19 has closed out most of our events for 2020, and we don’t think at this point, that we will be taking the trailer out of storage this year. (Time will tell) Since we have a good following for our Fun Nights, and the excellent meal that is prepared, a few of the executive members checked with the Moose hall for its availability, and decided to do a Spaghetti and meat ball TAKE OUT on Sunday, May 31st at the hall, and all orders were placed in advance and when they arrive, the orders will be brought to their car, at which time they will pay by cheque or cash only. Many orders were received, and it looks like this event will be a great success. Not too much else is happening at this time, but as they do come available, we will advise all members.

Regional Telephone Conference Call

On Saturday, May 9th, as President of the Past Regional President’s Association, I was invited to participate in the first ever telephone conference call, instead of the three day event face to face. With all that is happening now, this decision was made by the International body, as well as the Regional body to keep all of members safe. All of the Regional Executive members have agreed to stay in their current position for one more year. Next year’s Regional Conference is planned for Medicine Hat Alberta on May 27th to 29th, 2021, and the following year, 2022, they are looking at another telephone conference call. Most of the Awards this year were cancelled, because of not meeting, but the Neil Pickering Secretary’s Award was announced and this year’s winner is Marilyn Cumming from Cranbrook BC #1023. Regional President Rod Wilson stated last year that he would present $10.00 to a member, who signs up a new member, during the year. Throughout the year, in our Region, 66 new members were signed by our members, and Thunder Bay members signed of 11 of them. These cheques are in the mail to the Secretary. President Rod Wilson stated, since he is still President, he will pay $10.00 to the member who signs up a new member this year as well.

Sysco Purchases

At the present time, we are ordering products from Sysco Foods for our members to purchase on a monthly basis. Since their prices are subject to change at all times, we have a ball park price of the items, but we cannot guarantee the price. If you are interested in purchasing product, please contact Gord Ross at [email protected] and a list will be emailed to you. The next orders have to be in to me by Thursday, June 25th, for pick up at Sysco’s on Tuesday, June 30th at 11:00 a.m.
