Highlights of progress

Objective 1:

• Gavi’s portfolio to include human rabies vaccine for eligible countries.

• increased access to dog rabies vaccines, 2 million doses of rabies vaccines (OIE vaccine bank) to 13 countries

• training on medical care for state of the art human rabies prevention in 79% of countries with human rabies cases

• enhanced rabies awareness in several countries and regions worldwide, beyond WRD.

Objective 2.1:

• updated 6 global rabies standards to reflect best practice, with a One Health approach

• regional and national rabies-specific workshops in more than 60 countries reviewed progress of rabies elimination and country workplans

• development of an assessment matrix for operational tools used for rabies prevention (public domain)

✓ capacity-building to improve laboratory diagnosis of rabies in >50 countries

✓ Improve data reporting & collection for better decision making and first steps for linking global databases

✓ increased commitment to “Zero by 30”, rabies listed as a top priority in the tripartite MoU of 2018
