Panorama Culturel

Où retrouves-tu tes amis?  Where do you go to meet with your friends? Here’s what some francophone students had to say about where they go and what they do.

Page 19: Unit Review

Qu’en penses-tu? Where do the students on the next two slides go to meet their friends?  Do you and your friends like to go   to the same places and do the same things as these teenagers? Where do you go? What do you do?

? Many cultures have a particular kind of place where people gather. In many francophone countries, a café is more than just a place to eat; it’s a social institution! Cafés primarily serve beverages. They may also serve bread    (pain) or flaky crescent rolls    (croissants) in the morning, and some cafés serve lunch. If you order something, you may stay in most cafés as long as you like. In some African countries, people like to go to open-air restaurants called   maquis. They usually open only in the evening and serve traditional snack foods such as fried plantains   (aloco), as well as full meals.
