Language FocusUnit 13: FILMS AND CINEMA Time: 45 minutes OBJECTIVES:1. Checking the previous lesson. - Students can use wh-words to make appropriate question. 2. Educational aims: - Students can distinguish between two sounds /f / and /v / and pronounce the words containing those sounds correctly. - Students can use adjectives of attitude to describe films and express their opinion about them. - Students can use the structure "It was not until...that..." and articles "a/ an/ the" appropriately. 3. Skills: improve speaking skill by using the structure to produce the language

PROCEDURE:Teacher's Activities Student' Activities

Warm-up + Pronunciation: a competition games - Teacher (T) provides the class into groups ( each line make one group) - T: I will give each group a sentence, the students (Ss) will take turn to whisper it to the Ss behind as fast as possible, and the last Ss after listening to the sentence will write it to a given paper. The fastest and most accurate group will be the winner. - Sentence 1: Fred finds his vacation in Vietnam very fantastic and valuable. - Sentence 2: I fail to forget the frightening feeling when visiting that village.

- All Ss in the classtake part in the game.

Lesson plan Unit 13: Films and Cinema Language focus Pronunciation: - T models the two sounds /f/ and /v/ three times and shows how to produce these sounds: the upper teeth touch the lower lips /v/: vibration, voiced /f/: no vibration, voiceless - T reads once for Ss to hear the words containing these two sounds. Then T reads again and asks Ss to repeat after T. - T asks Ss to read the words in chorus then individually and corrects Ss' mistakes. - Note: if many Ss do not pronounce the words correctly, T may get them to repeat after him/ her in chorus and then individually one more time. - T asks Ss to work in pairs and take turn to read aloud the given sentence. - T listens and takes notes of Ss' errors. - T calls some Ss to read the sentences again and provides feedback. - listen and pay attention to T's instruction.

Grammar:a/ Adjectives of Attitude:

Presentation: - T introduces to the Ss that there are two adjectival forms of a verb: the present participle and past participle. the ing form: has an active meaning, describes a property or characteristic of a people or an object. Ex: This book is interesting. the ed form: has a passive meaning, describe the feelings about someone or something. Ex: I'm very interested in this book. Practice Exercise (textbook/p140) - T introduces the exercise and asks Ss to read all the sentences through. T explains new words: astronomy- a science that study the stars; exhaustmake you feel extremely tired - T gets Ss to do the exercise individually and goes around making sure that they work. - T asks 5 Ss to give their own answers. - T checks with the whole class and provides the answers.

Ex: an hour (but a house) Consonant written as a vowel => "a". Ex: a university (but a umbrella) Meaning: one Use: "a/ an" are used to refer to "one of a class", we do not think about any particular person or object. Ex: a book, a man, a friend. Definite article "the" Form:The + singular/ plural countable noun The + uncountable noun Note: we pronounce "the" as / i:/ before a vowel.

Use: "the" is used to refer to the people or things that we have already mentioned or when it is clear from the situation which people or things we mean. Ex: She's got a boy and a girl. The boy is John and the girl is Jenny.

Practice: - T gets Ss to do exercise individually and then check the answers with their friends. - T checks with the whole class whether they know how to use the articles in specific cases and provides the answers.

Consolidation- T consolidates the lesson. - T gives Ss the handout to read at home, and asks them to do homework.
