d’abbigliamento con disegni e motivi colorati e descriverli nei tuoi testi così impre-

ziositi. Chi legge deve indovinare gli abbinamenti corretti fra testo e immagine.

Compito

Sulle piste di sci a Pontresina, in Engadina, hai conosciuto Brett, che viene

dall’Australia. Qualche settimana dopo gli scrivi dalle tue vacanze di primavera a

Engelberg. Hai anche trovato una cartolina postale adatta, che illustra proprio le

attività che pratichi ogni giorno. Raccontagli di queste quattro attività. Nel testo

devi inserire anche l’esordio con l’appellativo e il commiato con i saluti. Puoi anche

aggiungere delle informazioni supplementari e utilizzare il retro del foglio. Com-

poni il tuo testo con le forme verbali al passato utilizzando il past simple.

1 ‘Life is hard but sweet,’ says Comfort Kumeah, who lives as a cocoa farmer in

Ghana. She tells us about her life:

‘At 5:30 I wake up. I live alone now.

2 Before breakfast I clean the entrance to my house. Next thing, I take a cold bath.

Then I light the fire to cook my breakfast. I live in Mim, a small village in Ghana. I

was teaching for 39 years.

3 When I stopped teaching I bought 20 acres of land. My land is about a half-

hour’s walk away from my home. I leave my home at 7:30.

4 To go to my land I wear my old work clothes and my rubber boots. They are

great. They protect me from biting insects and sharp stones. I also take all the

things with me that I need to cook my lunch.

5 Cocoa is ripe from October till May; some is also ripe in July and August. When

the fruit changes from green to yellowish it is ripe. I cut the fruit that doesn’t

grow too high with a machete and the fruit that grows high with a sharp knife.

Then I ask friends and family to help. The men cut the fruit open; the women

and children take the beans out.

6 We put the beans on banana leaves and cover them. The fermentation gives the

chocolate its taste and the smell changes as they go from white to brown.

7 Then we bring the beans back to the village, sack by sack on our heads, and dry

them in the sun for a week. A well-dried cocoa bean, pressed between two

fingers, will crush.

8 When I come back from the farm I wash, change and light my fire to prepare my

dinner. Then I go to church at 7 p.m. We sing, dance and clap.

9 On the way home I hear all the news. Ghanaians love greetings, and shout

‘Hello! Hello!’ and shake your hand whenever they pass. My husband died

several years ago but I cannot be lonely in Mim. I’m mother to five children who

all help.

10 Night falls very quickly in Africa – the sun is gone by 6 p.m. and I am in my bed

by 9. I love my clean sheets. I always pray before I sleep, and thank God for

taking care of me, my children and my company. I never feel unhappy with my

life. I am surrounded by beauty, I eat well and I am free.
