The following information applies to all students:• All students are expected to wear the designated full and correct

uniform during the College day and when travelling to and from the College. This includes visits to shopping centres or other places outside the College hours. The uniform is to be worn with correct sizing and modesty at all times. This is applicable to both boys and girls.

• All uniform requirements are compulsory and no variations or exemptions will be granted for religious or cultural reasons or sensitivities.

• If a student is unable to comply with the correct uniform requirements, a note containing a legitimate reason must be sent to the College from the parents/guardians.

• The College reserves the right to send home any students not complying with the uniform policy.

• The chewing of gum is not permitted.• The College has a “hands off” policy. All contact between

students is prohibited in uniform.• Additional rules as determined by the Principal and Heads of

School may apply.

Naming Uniform ItemsAll belongings are to be clearly marked with your child’s name. Printed cotton name tags sewn or ironed onto clothing is highly recommended. It is important to name everything including bags, hats, shoes, socks and containers.

Jewellery, Earrings and Body Piercing/Art• Piercing, tattooing and body art are not a part of the College culture or uniform regulations. • Students are not permitted to wear any rings, bracelets, necklaces, anklets or wristbands including all religious symbols, icons or emblems. Students are permitted to wear Medic Alert bracelets.• Students may not wear a watch that can connect to a mobile phone

or the internet.• Female students are allowed a single pair of silver or gold, (which

may include College coloured stones) studs or sleepers. Earrings may only be worn in the lower ear lobe. No other location is acceptable. The studs must be unobtrusive and no greater than 3mm across.

• Students are not permitted body piercing including nose, tongue and eyebrow piercings.

• Clear plastic rings, bolts or similar items designed to keep the pierced hole open are also unacceptable.

• Piercings concealed by a band aid are not acceptable.• Boys are not permitted earrings of any description.

Makeup PolicyAs a general rule, no makeup is permitted to be worn whilst at school. We do however realise that there are times where exceptions need to apply, for instance:•to cover blemishes or breakouts, tinted moisturiser may be used. Alternatively, concealer may be applied to the affected area/s. •for more serious skin conditions, a thin natural-looking layer of foundation may be applied to the whole face; however, a doctor’s certificate must be provided to Secondary Reception. This will need to be renewed every 6 months. •There are no circumstances when mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, blush etc. are needed during school time. Clear lip gloss (not sparkly) is permitted. Eyelash extensions, acrylic and gel nails are not permitted at anytime. Parents and students are reminded that only clear fingernail polish may be worn. As a guide to reasonable and safe nail length for general school activities and sport, fingernails should not be visible above the tip of the finger when looking at an outstretch hand from the palm side.

Hair and Grooming• All students are expected to keep hair neat clean and well-

groomed at all times. Boys are to be clean shaven.• Hairstyles for boys and girls must be moderate – punk styles,

undercuts, spikes, hair extensions and wedges or other unusual lines or shapes cut into the hair are unacceptable. The side and back of hair are to be belnded with the top. Fringes and side fringes must clear the eyebrow at all times (not just when held back with product). Students in Years 1 to 6 are not permitted to colour their hair.

• Boys hair must be of reasonable length and style and no shorter than a no.3 blade for all over cuts. Hair products may only be used in moderation and not used to create excessive styles.

• Boys are not permitted to colour their hair. Boys hair should not be longer than the top of the collar and top of the ear. Sideburns past the earlobe are unacceptable.

• Girls hair that touches the collar, must be worn tied back and

Uniform Regulations

Genesis Christian College is proud of its uniform. The uniform instills a sense of personal pride in the student body and is representative of the unity within the College community. It reduces competition in dress amongst the students and fosters a sense of belonging. The uniform also saves considerable expense to parents over the school year. All uniform requirements are compulsory and are to be purchased from the College Uniform shop.

off the face and ears. Fringes and sides must be brushed or pinned back so that it does not obscure their face. The hair should be tied with a navy, white or maroon hair elastic or ribbon. Multiple small plaits are unacceptable. Plain hair clips in the College colours may be worn. Headbands are to be in a single school colour – any flowers, sequins, lace or frilly designs are unacceptable. All hair attire must be College approved and are all available from the Uniform Shop.

• Girls (Years 7-12) may colour their hair but only if the chosen colour is a natural hair colour that does not result in two or more colours being achieved and is in keeping with the nature of the College uniform.

• If a hair style or colour is deemed to be unacceptable, appropriate action will be taken by the Principal or Head of School.

• NB – other rules may be determined from time to time regarding hats, jewellery, makeup and hair, at the discretion of the Principal.

Uniforms• Portions of school uniform are never to be worn with casual

clothing.• Shoes must be polished. Shoes must be plain black leather/vinyl

lace-ups. No coloured laces or stitching (see shoe description).• Regulation sports socks and sports shoes (see shoe description).• Only regulation school bags are to be brought to school and used

on day excursions (see bag description).• Length of skirts, for Years 7-12 girls: Skirts should touch the

ground when kneeling.• Length of skorts, formal shorts and sports shorts for all year

levels should be no less than 5cm above the knee.

BlazersBlazers are compulsory for Years 10-12 during terms 2 and 3 and all official functions in terms 1 and 4 when requested. During terms 2 and 3 blazers are to be worn to and from school, to form, all assemblies, chapels, official functions and parent evenings. Students riding bicycles are not expected to wear blazers while riding. Blazers are not to be worn with the sports uniform.

HatsA regulation College hat, cap or bucket hat must be worn during play or sport sessions. The principle of ‘no hat, no play’ applies all year round.For Years P-6 students, the primary hat is to be worn to and from school, as well as in the playground. Students can wear the primary formal hat or the bucket hat with their sports uniform. For Years 7-12 students, the secondary formal hat is to be worn to and from school. The College formal hat/sports cap or bucket hat must be worn whenever a student is not under a man made shelter that provides shade. Students are expected to have their hats with them at all times; this includes entering and leaving the College.

BagsOnly regulation school bags are to be brought to school. The day to day College bag is the College backpack. The sports bag may be used in addition to the College backpack in situations where additional baggage is necessary.

HPE Sports and the sport uniformStudents in Years 10, 11 and 12 wear their sport uniform all day on Wednesdays and students in Years 7, 8 and 9 wear their sport uniform all day on Thursday.As per the uniform policy Secondary students are required to change after their HPE classes. In order for this to occur without losing academic time the following arrangements are in place:-• If a student has HPE in either period 1,2 or 3 they may arrive at

school in their sport uniform and must change into their formal uniform at Break 1.

• If a student has HPE in periods 4 or 5 they are to arrive at school in their formal uniform and change for HPE at Break 1 and then change back into their formal uniform during Break 2.

• If a student has HPE in either periods 6 or 7 they are to arrive at school and change into their sport uniform in Break 2 and then back into their formal uniform during the closing minutes of Period 7 or as directed by a teacher.

• Students are not permitted to go home in their HPE uniform other than for Wednesday or Thursday interschool sport, or at other times as determined by the Principal or Heads of School.

Anzac Service – Formal uniform with blazers and ties.Easter Service – Normal day uniform (HPE uniform is acceptable).Remembrance Day – Formal uniform with blazers and ties.Valedictory – Formal uniform with blazers and ties.Presentation Nights – Formal uniform with blazers and ties, black stockings for girls at Senior night.All Parent Evenings – Formal uniform (blazers and ties – Term 2 and 3 only).Camps – Start and finish in HPE uniform, unless advised otherwise.Carnivals – House shirt and HPE shorts and cap or bucket hat.Anti-Bullying Day – Normal day uniform and orange wrist band or hair ribbon.Jeans for Genes Day – Jeans and sports top with safe shoes.Dress in Red / Day for Daniel – Free dress in red.

Dress code for non-uniform days and school camps – All StudentsAll uniform rules still apply on non uniform days and all school camps.Enclosed shoes – preferably joggers and socks.Jeans and denim shorts (no short shorts or frayed shorts) are permitted.No graffitti on or inappropriate images or messages on clothing.A broad brimmed hat (or school hat) is still required.Boys: Collared shirts or T Shirts are permitted.Girls: No tank tops or short tops which expose the midriff,jeggings or leggings should only be worn under a skirt or a long shirt.Swimwear needs to be modest and where a two piece is worn a rash vest and board shorts are required.

Sports competitions – Primary and SecondaryStudents representing Genesis at sports competitions and sporting events are required to be in regulation sport uniform or Genesis tracksuit, depending on the season. All teams depart from the College and return to the College in their sports uniform and change into the relative team uniform for competitions.

House ShirtsHouse shirts are to be worn for a variety of sporting and other activities, as designated by the College.Shiloh – Yellow, Gilead – Green, Jericho – Red, Bethel – Blue. No other coloured shirt is acceptable for these events. Siblings will be allocated to the same sports house.

Dance UniformFor all Dance classes from Grade 8-12, it will be a requirement for students to wear the dance singlet and leggings for girls and the T/Shirt and shorts for boys specific to this subject. These items are for in-class use and for assessment purposes to allow the students freedom of movement. The only other time the uniform can be worn is for the Dance Showcase Rehearsals and may be worn home following rehearsals. The uniform cannot be worn for any other events or with the College sport uniform. All items are available from the Uniform shop.

SwimmingFor swimming lessons, carnivals and other activities involving swimming for College purposes, female students are to wear a one piece swim suit. Boys are to wear jammers or trunks. Years Prep-12: Swimming caps in house colours are compulsory for all swimming lessons and events. College rash vests are compulsory for all swimming lessons conducted in uncovered pools. Both are available from the Uniform shop.

ShoesPrep: Joggers with College sport socks (velcro straps are recommended for independence).Years 1&2: Buckle up or velcro strap regulation black leather/vinyl shoes are acceptable.Years 1-12: Regulation black leather/vinyl lace up shoes (not boots, joggers or slip-ons). Ballet style slip-on shoes or heels higher than 2.5cm, for girls are not permitted for safety reasons. Sport shoes must be recognised running cross training, netball, tennis or low-cut basketball shoes predominately white, which provide foot support, are to be worn with the sports uniform. Fashion sports shoes that do not provide ankle and arch support i.e. skate shoes, Volleys, canvas slip-ons or Converse shoes are not permitted. Cleat shoes are not to be worn away from the fields. Grass is to be cleaned from shoes before entering the toilet/change block and classrooms. Only White shoe laces are acceptable in sports shoes. Coloured shoe laces including black laces are unacceptable. Shoes must be kept clean and in good condition.

Footwear RegulationsAppropriate day footwear for both boys and girls includes black lace up leather/vinyl shoes with maximum heel height of 2.5cm.

Examples of inappropriate footwear:

- canvas shoes - wedge heels

- buckle shoes - ballet style

Appropriate predominately white sports uniform footwear includes sports shoes designed for:

- running - netball - cross training - tennis

- low-cut basketball (only for basketball play or practice)

Examples of inappropriate footwear:

- bowling style - slip on style

- skate style - Volleys

- canvas shoes - Converse shoes

Appropriate footwear for Home Economics:

In all instances, Students need to wear black leather lace up shoes when in the Home Economics lessons. If the lesson falls

at a time when the student is wearing the sport uniform, students are to change into their black leather shoes for the Home

Economics lessons.
