    INTRODUCTION AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Gunaryadi

We do not remember days, we remember moments. The richness

of life lies in memories we have forgotten, wrote Cesare Pavese

(1908-1950), an Italian poet, novelist, literary critic, and

translator. Mens life constitutes the chained memories and

collection of experiences that some temporarily restored in the

short-term memory and some engraved in the long-term memory,

where some to be forgotten and some to be remembered.

Memory of life does not end up at about forgetting or

remembering. It also a source of inspiration if not motivation to

achieve a better future, as it is a history, like what an Lebanese

American essayist, novelist and poet, Khalil Gibran (1883-1931)

said, Yesterday is but todays memory, tomorrow is todays

    dream.

Each individual is unique, so ones memorable experience is also

distinctive. The lovely memory cannot be therefore measured with

material value. Converting ones past memory into written form

and collected in a single manuscript is thus a way to save the

    invaluable past moments.

This collection of essays consists of the selected written works of

31 SMP and SMA students, for the second semester, 2008/2009

academic year. It has several objectives. As the first aim of this

activity is to collect students personal experience then the theme

is concentrated on recounting individual unforgettable moments.

The second aim is on English grammatical practices that isin

this casein tenses usage with special emphasis on the simple

past and past perfect. The third aim is to train, sharpen and refine

students writing competence in English. The final aim is to assess

students level of writing mastery, including the aspects of

vocabulary, logic, coherence and cohesiveness, and style, since

some of the works are parts of English practical tests.

The learning procedure in this activity was that the students were

asked to write down their respective memorable experience. Their

original pieces of work were then sent by email to the teacher who

eventually checked and revised, and the first draft were then

printed out and returned to the students by asking them to

compare the revised version and their original works. From the

learning activity it is expected that the students would gain

relatively significant knowledge particularly in English

    composition.

This collection would not become a tangible work in a hectic

schedule and could be completed in a brief period without

assistance and involvement of many individuals. To the students

who have participated in this activity and contributed their works

to this collection, we appreciate you all very much. We hope you

in particular to our kids who will leave our school after the

graduation this yearwould be prospering with your future.

To Habib, Edwin and Icha of 2 SMA we would like to express our

sincere thanks for typing some of the works so that it helped

accelerating the completion and eventual publication. To Mr.

Hatami Nugraha, who has helped in technical matters of

publication, we thank you very greatly. And finally to Mr Saidan,

our Director, your enduring guidance, positive motivation and

support to all beneficial and useful activities for this school would

never be in vain. We are indebted to you so much. We hope that

you all would receive rewards from the Heavens.
