Why Waste Agricultural Biomass?• Globally 140 billion metric tons of biomass is generated every
year from agriculture which is equivalent to approximately 50billion tons of oil. This lead to substantial reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on two fronts:
1. Controlling the methane emissions from rotten waste biomassand CO2 from open burning
2. Replacing dirty energy source with clean energy from wastebiomass – Moreover, Agricultural biomass waste whenconverted to energy can help to reduce the dependency onfossil fuel, reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and providerenewable energy to particularly in rural areas, which still lackaccess to electricity
• Some types of waste agricultural biomass could be convertedinto useful materials. For example, compost for soil stabilizationand as a fertilizer, fibers (and subsequently cloth) can be madefrom waste banana plants and pineapple plants. Bagasse(waste biomass from sugarcane) can be converted into paper
