This is an invitation to join me in the next steps of a journey to create more openings through my photography. It’s a journey that’s rooted in memory -- as a 10-year-old child, I witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. It appeared to me like a mystery, changing my perception of reality and my own identity. Many years later, in 2014, I created an interactive travelling photo exhibition, Within My Walls and Beyond, and extended this exhibition with workshops designed to question the meaning of walls and confinement.

Today, I’m a walker between walls with a camera. Through my lens, I see the possibility of creating new openings and integrating scars. I have a mission to try to “reconcile the past in the present through the power of photography”1 and it’s with this mindset that I also founded Within Our Walls and Beyond.

As an East-German born documentary photographer and human rights activist I’m excited to share with you that I’ve been accepted to the two-year Master of Fine Arts Photography Program at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York, beginning next fall. I’ve been honored with an award of a small scholarship. It will cover a part of my tuition, however, in order to obtain an F-1 international student visa, I need to secure the total of my 2-year funding with a minimum of $75’000 no later than June 17, 2017.

ICP’s dedication to “the creation of socially and politically minded images that have the potential to educate and change the world” strongly resonates with my goals. I believe in the power of creating images through new collaborations and not walls. Taking my current work from Switzerland to New York will sharpen my artistic vision and broaden my reach. I also need to be at the top of my craft; ICP’s Master’s Program will allow me that growth.

As “the moon needs time to become full” (Rumi), this is where dreaming together is important to the success of my journey. I’m both down-to-earth and willing to walk to the moon and back! Your support means everything and would help my dream become a reality.
