Thuraya XT DUAL is an advanced satellite phone using cutting edge technology. Its superiority is reflected in having three integrated technologies in one handset: satellite (SAT), GSM and GPS offering you an unmatched combination of quality and performance. Thuraya XT DUAL is a tri-band phone that allows operations on three different GSM networks: 900, 1800, 1900 MHz offering highest flexibility. In order to establish communication on SAT mode, there are a few points to consider: - The antenna should be pulled out to make or receive SAT calls. - While observing the indicator for SAT signal strength, move your phone to achieve the best connection quality. - SAT communication requires clear space without obstructions such as buildings, trees or mountains. - Try to direct the antenna of the Thuraya XT DUAL towards a Thuraya satellite if the signal strength is not sufficient.

2.7 Performance Assessment

The establishment and maintenance of a communications link, the assessment of RXQUAL, and the assessment of the audio breakthrough by monitoring the speech output signal level, are used as performance criteria to ensure that all primary functions of the transmitter and receiver are evaluated during the immunity tests. In addition, the test shall also be performed in idle mode to ensure the transmitter does not unintentionally operate.

2.7.1 General Performance Criteria

Performance criteria for Continuous phenomena applied to Transmitters (CT) A communication link shall be established at the start of the test, and maintained during the test. During the test, the uplink speech output level shall be at least 35 dB less than the previously recorded reference levels, when measured through an audio band pass filter of width 200 Hz, centred on 1 kHz (audio breakthrough check). At the conclusion of the test, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, and the communication link shall have been maintained. In addition to confirming the above performance during a call, the test shall also be performed in idle mode, and the transmitter shall not unintentionally operate.

Performance criteria for Transient phenomena applied to Transmitters (TT) A communications link shall be established at the start of the test. At the conclusion of each exposure the EUT shall operate with no user noticeable loss of the communication link. At the conclusion of the total test comprising the series of individual exposures, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, as declared by the manufacturer, and the communication link shall have been maintained. In addition to confirming the above performance during a call, the test shall also be performed in idle mode, and the transmitter shall not unintentionally operate.

Performance criteria for Continuous phenomena applied to Receiver (CR) A communications link shall be established at the start of the test. During the test, the RXQUAL of the downlink shall not exceed the value of three, measured during each individual exposure in the test sequence. During the test, the downlink speech output level shall be at least 35 dB less than the previously recorded reference levels, when measured through an audio band pass filter of width 200 Hz, centred on 1 kHz (audio breakthrough check). At the conclusion of the test, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, and the communication link shall have been maintained.

Performance criteria for Transient phenomena applied to Transmitters (TR) A communications link shall be established at the start of the test. At the conclusion of each exposure the EUT shall operate with no user noticeable loss of the communication link. At the conclusion of the total test comprising the series of individual exposures, the EUT shall operate as intended with no loss of user control functions or stored data, as declared by the manufacturer, and the communication link shall have been maintained.

3.2 Radiated Emission

TEST: Limits for radiated disturbance

Method

Measurements were made in a 10-meter semi-anechoic chamber that complies to CISPR 16/ANSI C63.4. Preliminary (peak) measurements were performed at an antenna to EUT separation distance of 10-meter. The EUT was rotated 360° about its azimuth with the receive antenna located at 1, 2, 3 and 4 meter heights in both horizontal and vertical polarities. Final measurements (quasi-peak or average as noted) were then performed by rotating the EUT 360° and adjusting the receive antenna height from 1 to 4-meters. All frequencies were investigated in both horizontal and vertical antenna polarity, where applicable.

Method Measurements were made on a ground plane that extends 0.5-meter minimum beyond all sides of the system under test and the minimum distance between the equipment under test and any laboratory walls or any other metallic surfaces shall be at least 1-meter. Air discharges were applied to non-metallic parts of the system. Contact discharges were applied to all accessible metallic parts. Method Measurements were made in a fully anechoic chamber and the indicated field strength was pre-calibrated prior to placement of the system under test. 3.7 Surges

TEST: Surges Immunity

Method Mains power tests were conducted with the product connected to a Coupling/Decoupling Network (CDN). The test voltage was increased from the lowest indicated level up to the maximum level. Five (5) positive surges and five (5) negative surges were applied at each of phases of the a.c. waveform: 0°, 90°, 180° and 270°. Each surge was applied 60 seconds after the previous surge. Signal and Telecommunications ports were subject to five (5) positive and five (negative) surges applied through the appropriate Coupling/Decoupling Network (CDN).
