The Extended Essay
Independent research essay of 4,000 words; a subject of your
choice related to your course study.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
A course to teach critical thinking and different paths to learning
and understanding.
Creativity, action and service (CAS)
Activities to develop awareness of themselves as responsible
members of their communities
Scoring system
• 7 points for each of the subject areas = 42• 3 points maximum for the core elements = 45• 78.6% average pass rate• The IB Diploma pass = 24 points• Less than 0.5% worldwide score 45 each year
