  2. 2. WHAT IS AUTISM? Autism affects everyone differently People with autism interpret the world differently Its not uncommon for autism to go undiagnosed We want to use our experiences to show teachers how people with autism can be supported at school
  3. 3. RECOGNISING SIGNS OF AUTISM IN A STUDENT Some students find it hard to concentrate Some students get into fights Students may seem isolated Students may find it hard to make friends For more help on recognising signs of autism, visit: www.autism.org.uk

ADAPTING TEACHING FOR AUTISTIC STUDENTS Autism can cause pupils problems at school You can make life easier for autistic students by adapting your teaching Quiet classrooms One to one help when needed Get to know your pupils and how they learn Keep your body language clear Have regular meetings with the parents of autistic students
  5. 5. MAKING SCHOOL FEEL SAFE Make a safe space at school Have a support group within the school for pupils with Autism. Being around other people that understand works really well Manage bullying Educate other students about autism Encourage students to report bullying
