• Political parties might not select female candidates
• Sexism – voters may not vote for female candidates
• Aggressive atmosphere in House of Commons puts people off
• Family reasons – working in London away from family, long hours etc…

Things are better for women…
• Working hours are 9-5• Easy to get to Edinburgh• Uses proportional representation –
women have better chance of being elected
• Women make up 34.1% of Scottish Parliament compared to 21% in London.
• Currently, the Deputy First Minister is Nicola Sturgeon
