Since the current Towsley village building is not that old, we were able to match the brick exactly, helping blend the new building right into the campus. Inside the building, drywall, paint, mechanical, electrical and plumbing are all underway in different quadrants. The most exciting of these, although it may not seem so, is the paint! The start of paint in the building signals the beginning of interior finishes- a big milestone on any project. With every week that passes, you will see more and more changes on the project. Stay tuned to Building Together for more updates from the site! - John Parker, Project Manager [email protected] Safety Spotlight Last week, we started demolishing a portion of the existing Spring neighborhood, which will become the new connector and resident activity area. When we work right next to occupied resident space, it is critical that dust, noise and fumes are all controlled so that the rest of the building is not disrupted. Elzinga & Volkers employs many techniques to control these “necessary evils” of construction including dust walls, negative air machines, air filtering and special noise controls. Although we cannot take out all the noise and dust associated with construction, we can make sure that residents are not disrupted or put in danger during our project. Executive SummaryAll Under One RoofWelcome to another issue of “Building Together.” We are very excited to share all the changes on the project over the last two weeks!

The most dramatic change to the site is that Quadrant #1 is now fully framed and is currently receiving its roof. Finally, you can get a sense of the full scale of the building. As framing is completed, the exterior of the site is undergoing a thorough cleaning. On the south side of the building, brick is being installed.

The start of paint in the building signals the beginning of interior fi nishes- a big milestone on any project.

With every week that passes, you will see more and more changes on the project. Stay tuned to Building Together for more updates from the site!

Quality ControlBefore paint is applied to the drywall, “fi nishers,” as they are commonly called, review every wall surface with a bright spotlight to look for imperfections. Typically, temporary construction lights are still inside the buildings during this stage of work, so it is important that the team review all the wall surfaces under conditions similar to the fi nal lighting that will be installed in the building. Before the fi nal coat of paint, the walls are reviewed one more time.

In this issue, we would like to recognize Quality Air, our HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) contractor. Quality Air has been a long term partner of Elzinga & Volkers, particularly in the senior living construction market. They were the Design/Builder on the HVAC system, meaning their engineers designed and installed the system. This process is very effi cient and allowed us to pre-order and prefabricate many of the HVAC equipment and components. The crews from Quality Air have done a fantastic job on the project so far and continue to be a great partner. Thank you for all the help!

Two Week Look AheadThe exterior of the building will continue to transform as BMC masonry continues to lay brick on the building. As brick goes up, Kril Enterprises will follow behind installing vinyl siding. These exterior fi nishes will make this addition the show piece it was designed to be! On the inside of the building, progress will continue to move forward. The fi nishing process in Quadrant #4 resident rooms will begin with paint, which will be just the beginning of transforming each room from a construction site to a home. Over in Quadrant #2, wall board will continue to be hung and fi nished. Trades are quickly catching Quadrant #1 up with the rest of the building and will continue the rough-in process in the upcoming weeks.
