Ditty Bags• An Early Start• Began in St. Petersburg in the 1900s as a Christmas project

for children of immigrant workers• Drawstring bags were sewn to help families carry the toys

around

• Today• Bags are packed along the Gulf Coast from Manatee to Pasco

County• 2014 will see about 2200 bags go out into the community• 95% of the children’s ditty bags still go to migrant worker

families
