Customer’s Corner: Ultra Purge Helps Solve Stack Tool IssuesIn order to maximize profits, it is crucial for injection molding companies to perform color changes in a fast and efficient manner. Moulds Plus International recently worked on a project with a large injection molding company in Canada producing thin-walled food containers. The injection molder had difficulties going from a black PP to white PP on a 16 cavity stack tool. The current method of using resin to purge the machine resulted in downtime of up to 12 hours. An Ultra Purge Account Manager visited the plant to assist with the Ultra Purge test and to also gain a better understanding of the molders operation. Stack tools for many molders can be difficult to purge due to the fact that the purging compound needs to be molded. To further complicate things the mold was producing thin walled parts which made it even more difficult to mold parts out of a purge compound. Fortunately Moulds Plus International has a lot of experience purging stack tools and has developed a grade, Ultra Purge BP, specifically designed to clean thin-walled parts produced on a stack tool. The Ultra Purge Account Manager was able to reduce the downtime from 12 hours to 7 hours by using a combination of the Ultra Purge BP and P-O. Thus, reducing the downtime by 5 hours equated in a reduction of 2,750 lbs of scrap. As a result, by using the Ultra Purge the total savings (downtime and scrap) for this injection molder was $2,667.
Spot Light on Ultra Purge
Re sins with a low operating
temperature in many situations can
be difficult to purge. Moulds Plus
International has a grade of Ultra
Purge that has been specifica lly
designed to purge these lower
temperature re sins. The Ultra Purge
LOW-E grade is designed to purge
re sins with an operating temperature
as low as 284° F. For example, PVC is
considered to be in the group of lower
temperature re sins. PVC is
notoriously known for how easily it
degrades, which can wreak havoc on
production. The LOW-E is de signed
to neutralize the hydrochlor ic gas and
keep degraded material from
forming.

New and Improved HT Grade
At Moulds Plus International we are continually looking to improve in order to provide the best products and customer service. Our latest improvement to the Ultra Purge product line is a new upgrade to our Ultra Purge HT grade. The HT grade is designed to purge high temperature resin (temps up to 716° F). We have modified the composition of the HT grade in order to reduce the smoke that is released when purging high temperature resins. Due to the changes that were made to the HT grade, it will also have a higher temperature threshold. Feel free to contact us for a free sample of the improved HT grade.

Moulds Plus International is proud to announce the opening of its first Latin American location in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In order to be more efficient and supply material faster to the customers of Brazil, Ultra Purge will be manufactured and ware-housed at the Ipero’ location. Moreover, to provide better customer service to the Latin American market, a full sales staff will be working out of the Brazilian location. The Brazilian manufacturing location for the Ultra Purge will also help Moulds Plus International expand its sales in the MERCOSUR countries. Additional locations for Moulds Plus International include Villalvernia, Italy; Santa Ana, California; Mexico City, Mexico; and Xiamen, China. Moulds Plus International also has distributors located throughout the world supplying Ultra Purge to the local markets.
At Moulds Plus International we understand that companies are using commercial purge compounds in order to save money. Moulds Plus International offers free training to companies in order to help minimize the amount of purging compound required and to help maximize the efficiency of the Ultra Purge. All employees that are involved with purging the presses are trained by an Ultra Purge technical specialist. The training emphasizes the quantity of Ultra Purge to use for each press and proper Ultra Purge procedures. Along with training sessions, custom laminated procedures and a chart detailing quantities of Ultra Purge required are provided free of charge. The sheets then may be posted near each press for easy access.
For the second consecutive NPE, Moulds Plus International hosted a booth at the 2012 NPE. This year, the NPE was held in a new location, Orlando Florida, and it did not disappoint. The Ultra Purge booth was full of activity all four days of the show, and our Ultra Purge Account Managers have been busy following up with all the people that dropped by our booth. We look forward to attending the next NPE in 2015 and hope it toq be as successful as the 2012 event.
