    Ukulele Ike'sComic Song Book

For The U ku le leIntroducing Mr. Cliff Edwards, otherwise knownto vaudeville and the phonograph world as"UKULELE IKE", and recognized as the greatestukulele comic before the American public.

No one has a better right to present to ukulele enthu-siasts a folio of this sort, than "UKULELE IKE",who has established himself by his successful vaude-ville appearances and numerous phonograph re-cordings, as the originator of "uke" comedy and theforemost exponent of this form of entertainment, which is growing more popular every day.

~~ HORD DIAGRAMS are placed above the melodyand chords should be held until changed. Thevertical lines represent the strings, and the horizon-tal lines the frets. Fingers to be used are indicat-ed below wherever necessary, and open strings are

indicated by the empty circle about the string at the nut.

    1. MEANING INDEX FINGER2. MEANING M.IDDLE FINGER3. MEANING RING FINGER4. MEANING LITTLE FINGER

The use of the now well-known felt ukulele pick is rec-ommended, giving greater ease and greater volume for thenovice. The pick should be held under the ball of the thumb and onthe outside of the bent forefinger of the right hand, pressureapplied by these two fingers only, the other fingers and thewrist being relaxed. The point of the pick should be appliedsquarely across the strings near the sound hole, and the longaxis of the pick should be at an angle of 45 degrees to theline of the thumb, so that it is necessary to bend the wrist.

The most useful stroke is, four downbeats to the bar for thefox-trot Time, and three for waltz time. This can be variedto suit the discretion and taste of the player.

Oh why, oh why does the cow holler=Moo" Oh why, oh why does a hen cross the road?Oh why,oh why don't she bark? It puzzles me I declare,The reason the cow hollers"Moo" all the time, Now hat: is the reason she crosses th e roadIs because she isn't a mule. She's laying for someone back. there.Oh when,oh when is a door not a door I love to knock my head 011 the wallThe answer's not very far, A little boy told his pop,You find that the time that a door's not a duor I love to be knocking my head on the wall,Is when 'a door is a-jar. It reds so good when I stop.
