Outlook for graduates in 2014 is good. Recruitment

appears to be getting back to pre-recession levels

Prediction is 9% increase – 1,400 extra jobs

However, 80% of new jobs in the private sector were in

London. Big cities doing well, but vast regional variations

Most sectors are showing signs of recovery:

Consultancy, finance and service industries,

IT – mixed messages

Graduates who have had no previous work experience at

all are unlikely to be successful during the selection

process and have little or no chance of receiving a job

offer for their organisations’ graduate programmes.

Over one third of positions going to graduates who had

already worked for the organisation

Competition remains intense - the leading employers

have received an average of 46 applications per

graduate vacancy
