Shadow Creek was excited to welcome Congressman Randy Weber

to our campus on Wednesday, October 12th. Our staff and students

were proud to show off the campus and some of the great things we

have happening in our Health Science and Engineering classes.

UIL Waivers

UIL Waivers for Pre-AP/AP/Dual Credit classes are due Friday, October 21st at 1 pm

in Mrs. Robert’s office (A116). Students requiring a waiver for the first nine weeks grade must

turn in a waiver to remain eligible for the next nine weeks. This only applies to core and

foreign language classes that are Pre-AP, AP, or Dual Credit, and Pre-Cal.

PSAT TESTING

On Wednesday, October 19th, all SCHS students

will be taking the PSAT. Students – don’t

forget that you need to bring your own

calculator for the test. All problems can be

done without a calculator, but having one can

help students answer questions quicker. The only

calculators that are approved for testing are basic

four-function, scientific, or graphing calculators

that are on the approved graphing calculator list

in your PSAT student guide.

Parents, students and community members

are invited to attend the SCHS dedication

ceremony and afterwards enjoy

refreshments and self-guided tours of the

building. We hope to see you there!

SCHS BAND AND COLORGUARD

We would like to congratulate the SCHS Marching Band and

directors for placing 3rd in their very first class 5A marching

contest! And a huge shout out goes to the SCHS Color Guard

for achieving “outstanding color guard” in class 5A 2016 Katy

Marching Festival! Way to go Sharks!

FIGHT THE NEW DRUG (FTND) PRESENTATIONS

Our children are confronted with a growing number of challenges that many of us did not encounter during our

time in school. The rise of social media and the frequent use of the Internet have both led to an environment

where students are confronted with questionable material at younger ages. Our intent is to partner with Alvin ISD

families to provide resources and information that will be useful to parents as you support your children in the

way you find most appropriate. The full partnership, outlined below, begins with an informational parent

assembly to ensure you are fully aware of the content that will be shared during the upcoming Fight the New

Drug student presentation at Shadow Creek High School.

Alvin ISD has partnered with Mrs. Kerri Taylor and the organization “Unbound Houston” to offer the program

titled, Fight the New Drug (FTND) at our three comprehensive high schools. Fight the New Drug presents an

interactive and age-appropriate presentation that uses science, research, and personal accounts to educate students

about cyber safety and the harmful effects of pornography. Alvin Independent School District will be one of the

many school districts in Texas to provide the FTND assemblies to their high school students, offering a parent

assembly prior to the student presentations.

On October 25, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Shadow Creek High School Auditorium, a community viewing will be

held to inform parents of the harmful effects of pornography and serve as a preview of the school assembly. The

presentation will provide parents an opportunity to hear and review this information and ask questions prior to the

Shadow Creek High School student assembly on October 26, 2016. Due to limited space in our auditorium, we

ask that only parents/guardians attend this meeting.

We hope you find this opportunity as a meaningful resource; however, if you prefer that your child not be a part

of this event, please download the opt-out form at the end of the newsletter, and return it to your child’s Assistant

Principal by 7:30 am on October 26, 2016.

Due to some scheduling conflicts in October, the booster club’s next
