Food Security at School
-To obtain full nutrition one must know what one eats: school, snacks, etc.
- Be aware- Adjust accordingly- Take extra time to make something simple,
but nutritious items- Utilize color, shapes, and more for child
interaction

If you can’t serve food, what can you do to encourage a “nutritious” lifestyle?
![Page 34: UH Manoa Food Science and Human Nutrition Council (FSHN)](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062222/56815a86550346895dc7f5ea/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
Encourage physical activity: Make physical activity a positive and social experience for kids, not intimidating or scary. Encourage group games where everyone plays together! At this age, exercise should be playtime.
Even if you can’t serve nutritious foods, you can talk about them! Encourage conversations about kids’ favorite fruits, vegetables, nutritious snacks.
SPARK: Sports and Active Recreation for Kids
![Page 35: UH Manoa Food Science and Human Nutrition Council (FSHN)](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062222/56815a86550346895dc7f5ea/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
Many Games in the “Training Guide for Group Leaders” integrate physical activity and nutrition education.
Play “Memory Ball” but have kids choose their favorite fruit. Players must name their fruit and the fruit of the person they are passing their bal to. Group Leaders can name fruits that kids may be unfamiliar with.
5 Servings Tag: A pair links arms and tags other people and links arms with them. When 5 people have linked arms to be free they have to name 5 different fruits or vegetables.
