Read the following passage and answer the questions given below :

J\.fany social work clients have signilicantmental and physical disabilities. Because of these limitations, they often experieru:e discrimination and social isolation.

The philosophy of nonnalization offers a powerful force in efforts to integrate persons with disabilities into the life of the community and ensure that their lives resemble that of the so called nonnal person as much as possible.

Nonnalization means making available to the disabled persons the conditions of everydsy life that are as close as possible to the mainstream of society. A person with disability should be provided opportunities of work, recreation, clothing. transportstion and daily activities in ways and in an environment that closely resembles how other citizens secure these resources.

The plea for nonnalization rests on the assumption that adsptive and socially acceptable behaviour is learned and maintained because individual has been given an opportunity to behave in conventional ways and that such behaviour has been reinforced. Further, appropriate behaviour is more likely to be emitted and reinforced in a nonnal environment.

The theoretical underpinning of the nonnalization philosophy are rooted in learning theory specially concept of modeling and imitation More importsntly it is a philosophy that recognizes the human rights - the dignity and worth of all people regardless of appeararu:e or physical or mental limitation.
