NUFON was formed eighteen months ago, with the int'entidm off bringing the gro ups within the north into closer contapt and instilled with a greater sense of co-op erationG5ur methodS "of WOrking have Changed and new ideas 'are .. · being developed all . the time, viz the important meting planned·fer November. Some things have been more success ful than dther, but there is little doubt ie1 most-peoples minds that the.oasic idea for a co-ordinated,yet non-official,network of independaht groupshas wonderful· merit and potential. ·

Some people, including myself, would go even further and say that such a body as NUFON is ESSENTIAL if an integrated and scientific system of Ufology is to be achievedWe shall never attain such respect if we continue to exist as a series of local groups (called, not altogether unfair lyaclubs'.-· by some sceptics) working along cur own little paths to no certain goal.

It is gratifying, therefore,to fjnd the NUFO idea catching on.Our qounter parts..:in the south are thinking in terms of a SUFON,being coordinated by BUFORAs liais on oi(icer for the Region,Alan Fossey.I is known: that two of· the foremost names,SIGAP (Sury.) and WAT SUP (Wessex) are in favour of the idea, which is a promissing start.

. In the Midlands LAPRO,the ambithE Leicester group, are working· witfi MURO and

the Nottingham UFOSociety towards a .simfar aim0nitial consultations have already been take , and it is hoped to take these further a

· lhe NUFON meeting.Such a network is a viable proposition because there are a nurhbr of groups in a reasonably confined geogi-aphical area.Coordinat9n can+be profitably arranged, therefore,& NUFON Hll certainly feel the behefit.aur ra·nks r{lave swelled,as the ·associates list shows, and we aro . .fast approaching the point where size becomes a detrimental factor to progress.

,r • . A forth network is being contem plated in the East by Bryan Jeffry,of the rcambridge UFO Soce.ty.It is nice to record that he,wih the others, have approached NUEON for advice and ideas.Once these other networks are active there ·;ts··no doubt we shall-learn from ech other greatly.

It is obviously in everybodies bosinterests that these.networks coop erate from the outsot. It seems a ver sensible poiicy, therefore, that a workiag committee be. formed jointly by the netwo rkt3,to meet perid1.cn.ll . • sucg features . as a jointly prooucBd magazin,of high stBf dard, would then become a p sibjlitye ·

The networks serve the UFO g.t.'u11rr

primarily.What of the•independant researh her1who are not abl• or ao not wish,to be .. -r of a group? Since there is no suh th:\ng as a membership_··NUFON has no real facili ti.es to encompa.ss · tpese. .• W. ..
