UDK (Ureal Development Kit)
In this Tutorial I will go through the basic steps to creating a Fire Particle inside UDKs particle system (Unreal Cascade)
How to Create a Basic Fire Particle
![Page 2: UDK (Ureal Development Kit)](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022020703/61fb3a7f2e268c58cd5baf5d/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
What you will need
• UDK Engine
• Photoshop - To create the Textures
• Internet - Reference, Images
![Page 3: UDK (Ureal Development Kit)](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022020703/61fb3a7f2e268c58cd5baf5d/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Basically you will need two Textures:
• Cloud Texture for the Flames and Smoke
• Circle Gradient Texture for the Sparks.
Creating the Textures Basically create 2 simple Textures that look similar to this. When creating these Textures keep to Grey scale because then inside the Unreal Engine you can manually change the colour. (more easily).

Opening UDK & Importing Textures
• Open UDK :) This is what you’ll see -
If you don’t see this then
click this button to open
the Content Browser.
Then select the Import button to Import Textures
- This is what you will see
- Name your Package and Texture (if want to create group for
Textures)

Creating the Materials
- So now the Textures are in, you need to create two materials one for each Texture.
- With the Texture selected right-click and find material and the Material editor will be displayed with the current Texture selected in there.
- Material Editor - Multiply the Texture with a
constant one to increase intensity and multiply result with vertex colour and set as the Emissive.
- Do this for both Materials and Textures.

Creating the Particle System
-With the Material selected create a Particle System (Name accordingly) -Only create one Particle System
-This is the Unreal Cascade Particle System Editor -After creating new particle this is what shows up -Emitter Editor (Flame) (Right click to rename or add new emitter (eg Smoke). -Component Editor (Right Click to add more components at will.

CREATIVITY!!
-Basically this is where your own CREATIVITY comes in handy. -This is where you begin to just mess around and see what you like using various components within the component editor of Unreal Cascade. -For example I used the same Material for the Smoke as I did the Fire. Only changing the components that effected each Particle, this makes each Particle behave in the way you want (Fire for Fire and Smoke for Smoke) -Using a Colour component for the Fire. -Using Size of life for Smoke, and Alpha over Life (both under the Component section) -This just allows you to create the Particle you want and to see it visually as you create it.

Fire Particle
-Here is what I did/used when creating a Basic Fire Particle
-Using very basic settings, I just played around with the settings until I had something I was happy with and Ta Da. :)

The End
• There are the Basic Steps I take to create a Fire Particle
• Basically its up to you how you want your Particle to look and act
• Anyways . . .
