Optus Coverage Remediation


Optus Coverage Remediation• Optus commissioned testing of the network in all campuses of the university

and at other locations identified by IS (for example the major teaching hospitals)

• Several areas were identified that required coverage enhancement including the Parkville & VCA campuses of the university.

• Site design visits were conducted on 6th and 7th November:– Optus Project Manager– Construction Engineers x3– RF Engineer– Heritage Consultant– Property Acquisition Consultant (Legal\Commercial)

• Optus have committed to resolving all coverage issues as expeditiously as possible and have set aside circa $3 million dollars to acquire and construct new mobile base stations within the University grounds


Outcomes of initial Optus assessment

• At a high level Optus identified the following areas for mobile facilities that would meet the optimum coverage objectives for the campuses:– a new mobile site in the North East corner of the Parkville campus– a new mobile site in the South East area of the Parkville campus– a new mobile site in the North West corner of the Parkville campus– a new mobile site in the middle of the VCA– a new mobile site on the David Pennington building– a new mobile site at St Vincents Hospital


Timing & Prioritisation• Optus is totally committed to this project, and to that end the intention is to deploy the sites as quickly as

possible• A initial project plan was produced which is copied below for your reference, however it’s fair to say that the

intention is to better this by many months. • At this point in time Optus have effectively completed process step 2 of 7 and now seek your authorisation

to move forward
