members and their children in cooperation with the Women Sport Department of Sharjah Ladies Club, and the Department of Children Centers in Sharjah, one of the departments of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

The event featured several activities such as the karate show, traditional performances, horse-riding, henna, face painting, a photography corner, art activities, in addition to hosting cartoon characters and traditional food, and organizing games for the audience.

The audience received gifts from a number of companies that teamed up with SLC including Kanzi, Zulal, Watani, Al Ain Dairy, Rouge Couture, Glossip, Safario, NMC Trading, National Bonds Corporation and Oud Boutique.

Sharjah Ladies Club celebrated the 43rd National Day of the United Arab Emirates by holding a series of activities for the staff, members of the club and their children. The event was initiated by hoisting the flag of the UAE to show solidarity with the country’s Flag Day that marks the day His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan became president of the UAE.

The event started by featuring a joyful parade performed by students of Basateen Preschool Center while singing national songs. The program of the event included a breakfast buffet for the staff of the club who also received goodie bags, in addition to conducting raffle draws on valuable prizes.

SLC organized a line-up of initiatives and programs in October to coincide with the international breast cancer awareness month, after which the proceeds were partly donated to the Pink Caravan Campaign. The program of events included wellness lectures and free medical checkups for SLC members, both of which were held in cooperation with the Pink Caravan Campaign and the University Hospital in Sharjah. On a lighter note, the club organized pink yoga classes and a Zumba party, along with featuring a film at SLC beach and offering themed face- and body-treatments.

This award adds to the continuous grand success stories of Sharjah Ladies Club which continues to climb the ladder of achievements. The annual event was first held in 2014 and aimed to motivate participants to make positive health changes and expand awareness that it is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle. It is noteworthy that the club is now gearing up to hold the event for the second time on January 30th, 2015 at the University City in Sharjah from 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm. The event will feature categories encompassing 2 km, 5 km and 10 km.

In support of Read to Syria’s Children initiative, launched by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, UAEBBY Patron and Head of the Organising Committee of Knowledge Without Borders (KWB), the Sharjah Ladies Club has extended financial support of AED 30,000 to the Big Heart Library, which opened in the Emirati-Jordanian Refugee Camp as part of the initiative aimed to offer moral and psychological support to Syrian refugee children.

Sharjah Ladies Club has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Paints Factories Co.Ltd with the aim of increasing cooperation in a range of areas including sponsorship and offering discounts to members. The signing took place at Sharjah Ladies Club in the presence of Badria Al Ali, Head of Corporate Communications at SLC, and Nuha Al Sayegh, Business Development Manager at National Paints Factories.

Sharjah Ladies Club organized a hairstyling workshop for youngsters who were showed how to wear their hair down in the most gorgeous hairstyles for Eid Al Adha. To support breast cancer awareness, Fitness 180° organized the Pink Zumba Party which drew 211 participants. The program of the event featured a range of activities including Zumba classes and a short film covering the story of a breast cancer fighter, highlighting her strong will. The event also hosted sale of Pink Caravan Campaign items in addition to healthy snacks and sportswear. The event was concluded with a raffle draw on valuable prizes presented by Lorna Jane and Oudh Boutique.

Basateen Preschool Center organized a wellness day in cooperation with Dettol, during which healthcare professionals from Dettol showed the students of the center how to properly wash one’s hands. On another note, the staff of the center participated in a workshop concerning the fundamentals of first aid as well as covering childcare hazards and how to deal with them should they happen.

In an endeavor to meet Basateen Preschool Center’s objectives and support the learning of its students, the center organized a field trip to the public library. The trip aimed to nurture the love of reading among the little ones and inspire them to explore the joys of reading. During the course of the trip, children were encouraged to take care of the books and learnt about the rules of the library, in addition to undergoing concentration exercises.

Basateen Preschool Center organized a field trip for its students to the Sharjah Science Museum which is designed to stimulate curiosity about the world and inspire exploration in young children. The field trip meets the goals of the curriculum which aims to enhance the students’ understanding of the five senses. The museum seeks to provide an innovative and enjoyable learning environment for children to discover the world around them through imaginative experiences to support their understanding of the five senses.

A team of chefs from Lafeef restaurant won seven medals and two merits during its participation in the Dubai World Hospitality Championship. The team reaped one gold medal in the championship’s Arabic Main Course - Practical Cookery category, won by Chef Tessie. The team also won five bronze medals, one of which was also won by Chef Tessie for the Traditional Arabic Mezzeh - Practical Cookery category. Practical Cookery category, and the other in the Beef Practical Cookery category, while the fourth bronze medal was won by Chef Mahesh in the Open Showpiece category. Chef Dulshyan won the fifth bronze medal in the Wedding Cake Three-Tier category, while Chef Dinushi won a silver medal in the Wedding Cake Three-Tier category, and Chef Khris received a merit for the Presentation of Tapas, Finger Foods and Canapés category. Finally, Chef Rodney recieved a merit in the Practical Fruit and Vegetable Carving category.

Preparation: • To prepare the béchamel, in

a pot, boil milk with the bay leaf, nutmeg, salt and white pepper. Melt butter in another pot then gradually add the flour and whisk to make a roux mixture, then add the hot milk to the roux and whisk continuously until you reach desired thickness.

• To prepare the stuffing, boil some water in a pot with salt, and blanch the spinach in it for a few seconds until it cooks down. Drain the excess water, chop spinach and keep aside.

• Meanwhile, heat oil in a

medium pan and sauté garlic and onion till golden brown. Add the chopped spinach and mix well, then season with salt and pepper. Set aside to bring mixture to room temperature.

• Combine spinach and ricotta cheese, then transfer to a piping bag and fill the cannelloni sheets with the stuffing.

• In a baking tray, lay some béchamel sauce at the bottom of the tray then top off with the stuffed cannelloni sheets. Put another layer of the béchamel on top of the sheets, followed by mozzarella cheese.
