Academic Enrichment Academic Enrichment is a very important part of the R’Club Middle School summer program. Each student will participate 2.5
hours a day instructed by a certified teacher. Students will work on skills such as math, science and language that are a reflection of the school year. All students are expected to participate and be respectful at all times.
The Animal Kingdom- A Vanishing Breed: In this project, students will investigate the characteristics and structures
of living things, how living things interact with one another and their environment. Students will learn about animals and their habitats; focusing on vertebrate species, classification, food webs, life cycles, and endangered species. Students will use technology, scientific methods, and mathematical processes in their investigations to collect, analyze, interpret, and display data. Students will learn about threatened, endangered, and extinct species. Student will examine ways they can become involved in conservation and awareness efforts to combat this issue of endangered animals. Students will visit a park, a zoo, and an aquarium to observe and document living animals. Students will also have an opportunity to have animal experts come into present first hand information about animals.
Exploring Space – the Final Frontier: Students will learn to compare and contrast the objects in the Solar System.
Students will learn inquiry methods used to gather data and problem solve, learn ways to explain the formation of the planets, stars and other bodies in the solar systems; as well as the plausibility of space exploration. Students will explore the characteristics of Mars and they will use the engineering process to design a Mission to Mars
Personal Enrichment Personal Enrichment is a time that’s allows students to be creative and get involved with something that interest them. They will
not only learn a skill such as first aid or babysitting but will learn about careers related to the Project Based Learning topics. Personal Enrichment is a great time for students to explore new hobbies and possible career choices.
Career Explorers: This project is designed to engage students in career exploration through individual and group
activities. The students will host a career fair using the research information they find about career opportunities. Students will explore the income and education/training requirements for the 16 different career clusters that have been outlined nationally. Students will choose a career cluster and focus on one specific career area to conduct further research on. They will interview professionals in various career fields. Using the information they obtain from online research and the professional interviews, students will complete a typed research paper on their chosen career. Students will also create a trifold poster display and a pamphlet on their career choice to be exhibited during the career fair. Students will be
responsible for organizing and hosting the career fair for students, parents, and community members to attend.
Global Cuisine: Learn about food and cuisine in cultures around the world, Investigate and prepare cultural dishes
BabySitter Boot Camp: This project is designed to help middle school youth learn what it takes to be a responsible,
caring, trustworthy, competent, capable, and safe babysitter. The core curriculum covers safety and accountability, First aid and CPR, Child Development, Nutrition, Entertaining Children, and the Business of Babysitting.
Service Learning Every week students will participate in a Service Learning Project. Service Learning Projects teach the students about
giving back and supporting the community and allows the students to make a difference with something that is important to them. This summer the students will be…
Peace One Day Character Education Project: This project aims to advance learning in the areas of conflict resolution, peace and sustainability, using Peace Day – September 21
st– as a focus. Peace day is the annual day of global ceasefire and nonviolence. This curriculum is diverse
and engaging. It provides young people with an ever-evolving range of projects that incorporate a variety of subjects and utilizes various platforms. Students will learn about conflict, conflict resolution, bullying, and ways to combat bullying. They will develop a Peace Day campaign to promote peace in their schools, homes, and communities.
Summer 2017
Commitment to Character
The 4 core values of C2C are: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Self Motivation. The 4 R’s of R’Club are: Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness & Responsiveness to the needs
of others.
Your students will hear these words a lot in our program. We believe in being committed to character and encouraging students to do so as well. We strive to recognize the students
when they are caught displaying these traits.
C2C Words of the Month
June Courage
Being brave in difficult situations, challenging yourself
July Patriotism
Demonstrating allegiance to one’s country
August Respect
Treating yourself & others with courtesy and consideration
Parent Reminders
Parents are required to come into the program to sign their student in and out of the program,
each day. We ask that when picking up on field trip days you wait inside the school until all
busses have been unloaded. It is a bit inconvenient; however, it is for the safety of your
student. Abuse of this policy could result in termination of services.
Please notify us immediately should pertinent information, such as phone numbers,
emergency contacts, addresses, etc. should change.
Please inform the director in writing should someone else, other than those listed on the
emergency treatment card as permitted to pick up, be allowed to pick up your student. We
will require a driver’s license or state identification card prior to releasing your student to
them.
Meals are provided. Please be aware that if your student brings a lunch from home
we are unable to cook or heat up any food products.
Students must wear closed toe shoes for health and safety reasons. Please no flip-flops or
open toed sandals.
Please do not allow you student to bring toys and electronics from home unless it has been
announced that they may do so. R’Club is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged
items.
Students will be allowed to bring plastic sip bottles for use outside for drinks.
If your student is taking any prescription medication, they must have on file a signed
Medical Administration Form (see Director). Medication will not be administered without
this form completed. All medication must be in original prescription bottle with only one
weeks supply.
Summer is head lice season, to prevent the spread of head lice please encourage your student
not to share combs, towels, and/or blankets and hats.
R’Club opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m.
Please feel free to come to the program at anytime and participate in our activities. You are
always welcome to join in the fun.
Discipline Policy
The following policy has been prepared in compliance with Florida Student Care Laws.
R’Club provides a democratic setting to foster the basic values of mutual respect, responsibility, cooperation, and reliability. The basis of the R’Club discipline policy is to
encourage appropriate behaviors, provide positive opportunities for the students to contribute, and to develop a sense of belonging in all students. Staff strive to understand the
underlying goals of mistaken behavior, involve the students in problem solving, allow for individual choice, and permit the logical consequence of the choices.
The center does not subscribe to spanking or any other form of physical punishment or the
withholding of food, rest or toileting. Specific guidelines are as follows:
GUIDELINES
R’Club students and staff RESPECT each other’s person, feelings, and property.
R’Club students and staff take RESPONSIBILITY for their actions and decisions.
R’Club students, with the aide of staff, are RESOURCEFUL to solve and prevent problems.
R’Club students and staff are RESPONSIVE to the needs of others and lend a helping hand.
PROBLEM RESOLUTION GUIDELINE
Step 1 Redirection of the student towards a more positive and appropriate choice. Step 2 Student’s choices are now restricted and documentation of misbehavior is noted
for the parent’s information. Step 3 Parent is contacted, in some cases, to pick up the student. A conference with the
parent and student is then established to solve the problem.
If misbehavior should still continue:
Step 4 One-Day Suspension Step 5 Three-Day Suspension Step 6 Five-Day Suspension Step 7 Termination of Services
NOTE: Fighting, destruction of facility or R’Club property, leaving the group or property without permission may result in immediate suspension. (Steps 4 - 6)
