Sentence• A sentence is a

group of words that express a complete thought.

• Ex: Tom is going to play.

Fragment• A fragment is a

group of words that does NOT express a complete thought.

• Ex: Around the corner.

There are 4 types of sentences.

• Declarative• Exclamatory• Interrogative• Imperative

Declarative• A declarative

sentence is a sentence that makes a statement.

• Ex. Jan is a student.

Exclamatory• An exclamatory

sentence is a sentence that is said with strong feeling or emotions. (always ends with an exclamation mark)

• Ex. What a shame!

Interrogative• An interrogative

sentence is a sentence that ask a question and always end with a question mark.

• Ex. What is your name?

Imperative• An imperative

sentence is a sentence that is a command.

• Ex: Go to your room.
