I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the
salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gen-
tile. (Romans 1:16)
June 3 was Confirmation Sunday. Nine young men and women
stood at the altar and confirmed their baptismal vows while affirming
their faith in Christ. I'm honored to have been part of it! It was truly a
wonderful experience.
It was also an inspiring moment filled with spiritual lessons for all of us. Here
are some of the lessons we can all learn:
(1) It is good to explore our faith, ask questions and discover what we believe.
Confirmation allowed the students to delve into the history and beliefs of Chris-
tianity. They asked all kinds of questions on their journey. And in so doing, discov-
ered what they believe, as well as gained the confidence to continue asking ques-
tions.
Many of us have never really explored our faith or asked the questions we've
wanted to ask. Yet God is much greater than what we think we know about him and
he is much bigger than any question we have. May we take a lesson from the con-firmands.
(2) Discipleship takes a commitment.
The confirmands spent nine months on their journey. And if you were to ask
them if the journey of discipleship is over, they would surely say, "No." They under-
stand that growing as a disciple takes a commitment. In fact, it takes a life-long
commitment.
This, too, is another great lesson for us. In a world of microwave ovens and
flash drives, discipleship is a slow and steady journey. It is a life-long commitment.
There are no short cuts.

Ever wonder about prayer? What is prayer (or
prayer life)? Why do I pray? Who do I pray to,
for, etc.? When can I pray? Where can I pray?
How do I pray? These are important questions
that need to be answered as one journeys as a
Christian. Join us Wednesday nights from 6 -
6:30 pm, as we explore this thing called 'prayer.'
