Where is the program installed? Local Hard Drive

○ Default file path is C:\Program Files\Tyco Flow Control\PRV2SIZE\○ The user can select an alternate location during the installation

Where is the ‘Tags’ database? Local hard drive

○ C:\Documents and Settings\(computer id)\Application Data\Tyco Flow Control\Obsidian A version that will allow users to save tags to a network SQL database will be

available by the end of the year

Current revision can be viewed by right-clicking on a tag in the Tag Library or the tag tab and selecting ‘Properties.’

The list of past revisions can be viewed by clicking on the ‘Past Revisions’ button under the tag properties.

Frequently Asked Questions


What happened to SafetySize?SafetySize is no longer supported and has

been retired.

How do I import old SafetySize tags into the new software?

The TYCO PRV²SIZE program does not support importing data from SafetySize. In order to get old information into the new program, the data must be manually entered into the new program.


Why was support dropped for SafetySize?SafetySize was developed with technology that is

now obsolete. The technology would not support Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Created problems when patched to operating systems.

The installation was not very simple. In order to update the software to a newer

technology, a complete re-write was required.At the same time, we took the opportunity to improve

upon some functionality that is in SafetySize.


I have a problem with SafetySize, what can I do? SafetySize is no longer supported. We recommend the

download & installation of the TYCO PRV²SIZE program.

Why do I get different results than SafetySize? The new software uses new Kb values for

many models. The new software uses 0.65 for liquid

discharge coefficient. The new software uses a better unit of measure

conversion module.


Why am I unable to print a report?A valve has not been selected.The TYCO PRV²SIZE program will not allow a

report to be printed if there is a configuration error.

Do I have to save and close a tag before starting to work on another tag?

No, multiple tags can be open at once, and they can be saved when the solution is incomplete.


Why is there an expiration date? The TYCO PRV²SIZE program will continue to

undergo development, and it is the desire of Tyco that the user base run a current version of the program.

Why is part of my screen cut-off? Has the screen been maximized? The TYCO PRV²SIZE program was optimized for

specific screen setups. There are some screen configurations for which the software cannot compensate.


Is there a version in any language other than English?

The TYCO PRV²SIZE program has initially been written in

English. A mechanism is in place that will allow the program to

be made available in other languages. There are no established

dates for making the program available in other languages.

Why do the reaction forces not appear? Reaction force is a function of the diameter of the outlet flange.

For all models, there are configuration options that must be selected before that diameter can be determined.


Why do I get an error message after making a selection in Configuration?

The configuration module of the TYCO PRV²SIZE program has been written so that standard constructions will result without errors being generated. If the desired configuration is special, then the user should use the custom check boxes to enter that information.


I cannot modify the model number.The program has been purposely setup to not allow

the user to modify the model number. A method has been established so that a ‘special’ place holder is placed in the model number if a custom configuration is setup. The model number will also place an indication in the model number that it is special.
