‘Grow our Customers’, ‘Grow our People’, ‘Grow our Business’. That was the theme of the ANZ GROWTH3 Strategy Kick-Off Meeting held from April 21 – 23, 2015. Patrick Conway, Sales Director for the ANZ region hosted the 3-day event in Lorne, Victoria. Besides presentations and breakout sessions, we conducted a ‘Voice of the Customer’ with some key customers whom we’d invited on Day 2 of the event. The invaluable feedback and insights gathered will help us fine-tune our deliverables and processes to better serve their business needs. One of the event highlights was a Corporate Social Responsibility activity where attendees helped pick up litter from a long stretch of beach in Lorne.

Jason Ng & Mark Wills produced this helpful Survival Kit which contained the agenda of the event and useful local information.

We launched the VIGILANT Generation 6 (Gen6) MX

Addressable Fire Detectors in the ANZ region at the end of Q3. But the Gen6 made its first public appearance (soft launch) at the Fire NZ 2014 tradeshow and again at the Fire Australia 2015 tradeshow in March this year.

The new Gen6 fire detector range comprises the Heat Detector (850H), Photo Smoke Detector (850P), Multi-sensor Smoke and Heat Detector (850PH). The innovative detectors use infrared technology with remote programming capabilities.

They are designed for faster commissioning and troubleshooting, allowing users to save valuable time and money. An interesting feature is the color option of the detectors. The Gen6 is available in any PANTONE shade which allows more flexibility to consultants and designers to match decor. They can be installed as an attractive feature or as a discreet safety device that blends into the environment. As part of the launch, we developed a new Gen6 microsite along with a series of animation videos to build awareness and drive up customers’ interest.

One of the satisfied customers remarked,“The new VIGILANT Gen6 is fantastic! This is a real game changer. I am extremely impressed with the ability to choose any PANTONE colour detector we need. Absolutely brilliant!”

HAPPENINGS IN APAC REGION

The Oil & Gas industry is a target vertical for Tyco. Following our in-roads into SHELL Asia, Pertamina Indonesia and PETRON Philippines where we conducted trainings and seminars, and helped conduct fire safety investigations, we moved north and reached out to customers in Rayong, Thailand. We pulled in local ANSUL distributor TKK to invite customers from PTT Global Chemical Group and Siam Cement Group, both big players in the petrochemical industry in Thailand. 42 people came to this event. Jan Johansson (Business Development Director, APAC) was our subject matter expert on Foam as he covered the basic principles and types of foam to its selection criteria. Questions raised during the discussion ranged from foam storage, shelf-life, viscosity to environmental impact of some foams. Several videos were shown throughout the presentation. The half-day session also covered INERGEN clean agent systems.

targeting rayongRAYONG, THAILAND

We had a lot of active participation in marketing activities from our

regional distributors in the last quarter. Our partners saw the positive impact from the customer-facing events which we have been doing the last few years, and have begun to invest time and money into similar activities. In the following articles, we spotlight some of these events. PT Effrensindo from Indonesia approached us when they saw a great opportunity to promote SIMPLEX solutions at a large conference for engineers. We helped Duc Duong (DDC) organize a seminar in Vietnam. PT Rotaryarna in Indonesia came to us when they participated in the Food Indo Tradeshow in April 2015. Also, we held a technical seminar in Rayong, Thailand and local distributor TTK helped invite key customers from the Petrochemical industry to the event. With these numerous conclusive events, we were also extremely gratified to hear much positive feedback about Tyco’s support.

investing in sales Growth ASIA-PACIFIC

We have done it with Dupont and local distributors in Malaysia and Singapore. This time, we partnered with 3M and Singapore distributor, Multron Systems. It was another collaboration of sorts with Tyco and 3M Singapore managing the presentations and Multron the invitees. And of course, we are talking about Novec 1230 agent and our SAPPHIRE Suppression System. TFPP held the half-day technical seminar at the Marriott Singapore on May 12th 2015. There were two speakers from 3M covering the topic on Novec 1230. Our very own Shiju SB from Technical Support/Training focused on the design aspects of the SAPPHIRE Suppression System. We captured 90% attendance out of all who registered for the event. These were mainly consultants, engineers and end-users Multron Systems work with or intend to do business with in the future. They included Parsons Brinckerhoff, DSTA, PSM Technologies and SingTel. Almost all 45 attendees stayed on throughout the seminar and approached our speakers with questions after the event ended.

The team that made this seminar a success!

Shiju sharing his knowledge with the attendees.

This is another example of a distributor investing time and money to grow its business with us. DDC is an authorized ANSUL and SIMPLEX distributor in Vietnam. Over the last few years, they have actively participated in product trainings organized by TFPP. After the last SIMPLEX product launch and training in Singapore, they were inspired to do something similar for their customers back in Vietnam. On the other hand, they also saw the need to promote the SIMPLEX brand there and hence, approached us for help to organize a Fire Detection Seminar. So after much preparation and coordination with Marketing Services (MarCom), they finally hosted the event in Ho Chi Minh City on May 8th, 2015. DDC paid for the event but Tyco provided all the technical, sales and marketing support. Alan Ang was the presenter. Thomas Fung (Tech & Training) led the local team with the product demonstrations. Dennis Mak (Sales) networked with the customers invited by DDC. Marketing Services handled the invitation, registration, banners, customer gifts, survey forms, certificates and sales collateral for the event. DDC even engaged a professional translator to help with the presentations. There was also a lot of interaction throughout the event. Feedback during the breaks and input collected from the event survey indicated that the event was timely and effective. Through this event, we gained a better understanding of our customers needs – with that, they became more acquainted with how our unique product solutions can help them from design, project execution, handing over, operation and right down to servicing of the building. Truly, a great investment from DDC!

TFPP APAC UPDATES

eHs Matters ASIA-PACIFIC / GLOBAL

Tyco Global Products released its first issue of the EHSMatters newsletter in June 2015. The inaugural issue focused on ergonomics in view of the number of manual handling injuries due to unsafe acts or conditions. It also covered all the great best practices that are happening across Tyco Global Products. Denise Lim, our Creative Designer helped design the cover and layout of the newsletter.

2

ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY

This subject is vast and does not just cover the lifting of boxes and the moving of heavy items in warehouses – it also relates to how we sit in an office, how we stand when working and also how our seating position affects our body when driving. Our posture can mean the difference between good or poor health. Ergonomic related injuries (categorized as Manual Handling) account for 18% of all Tyco recordable injuries year to date, and have been in the top 3 of our accident classifications for several years. Therefore, as part of this communication, we are providing some tools on the Ergonomic group in Yammer to help reduce our injuries.

Please join this group and be an active Ergo champion (search for “Manual Handling”). First, we start with a poster (infographic) that provides details of why ergonomics is important to you. This also gives some facts about ergonomic injuries. This poster can be used to communicate the importance of ergonomic issues and should be displayed prominently at locations. Second, we provide a selection of videos from Napo on the Yammer ergonomics site. These videos are specifically designed to train employees without the need for words. This is an excellent tool for global businesses such as ours where we want to communicate

a consistent message to employees that speak different languages. Other information such as presentations, aide memoires, practical tools and information bulletins are also available on the Ergonomic group in Yammer.Good lifting technique starts with your brain – work smart, not hard. Think and plan before you lift! However, please bear in mind that you should also consider who your lifting partner is each day. This could be a colleague or a mechanical device. Let’s help to reduce our injuries from ergonomic related tasks by using the tools and communicating some best practice across the organization.

Proper workstation habits of an employee

Monitor distance 18”–36”

Monitor height should be at/slightly

below eye levelShoulderslow & back

Adjust arm rest to elbow height

Wrist straight

Keyboard height= approx. elbow height

90° to 120° angle

Feet should be supported either

on the floor or on a footrest

No reaching forward to keyboard & mouse

Causes of Injuries Corrective Actions

Over-exertion – handling a load beyond the body’s capabilities

Assess the load and ask for help if too heavy or awkward

Repetitive actions – continually repeating certain movements

Change job activity frequently

Poor house-keeping – slips, trips and falls

Workplace inspections, be aware of your

environment

Poor workplace layout – encourages unsafe work

postures and unnecessary manual handling

Review layout during job design phase and make adjustments to reduce

strains on body

Incorrect body position and movement

Pre-plan work activity or adjust seating positions

Failing to change position or regular stretch

Take regular breaks or change work activity

Welcome to our very first EHS Matters Newsletter which has been developed to capture all of the great best practices across Tyco Global Products for sharing globally. The content enclosed is developed directly from our own employee’s stepping up for Safety & the Environment!

As we continue to close out FY15, we have an opportunity to review these practices and to leverage them across our global operations.

Recently, we have a seen a number of manual handling incidents which have resulted in employee injuries or U-ACTs (unsafe acts or conditions), this is our highest category of injuries and thus a theme for this newsletter this quarter to focus on ergonomics to reduce this exposure.

Additionally, the culture change program continues to grow across Tyco with now over 10,000 employees now engaged and several 100 completed projects from the grassroot teams.

If you have a suggestion for a future newsletter or would like to comment, please email me at [email protected].

Alan Ang – BD Fire Detection presented to some 250 people at the annual Himpunan Ahli Elektro Indonesia (HAEI) conference in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 23, 2015. This is an annual event where members of HAEI comprising M&Es, contractors, developers and representatives from government bodies meet, learn about new technologies and network. Our local distributor, PT Effrensindo saw this as a great opportunity to promote SIMPLEX Fire Detection solutions to a focused group of people. They initiated this collaboration with TFPP. As joint event sponsors with PT Effrensindo, we had the opportunity to present at the event and put up an exhibition stand to showcase SIMPLEX fire protection solutions. Alan spoke on recent changes to NFPA codes and highlighted SIMPLEX’s innovative detection solutions that could help meet the new challenges in development of fire safety standards in Indonesia. The live demonstration of the TrueAlert device, the TSW multiple workstation and iPhone Mobile were captured on the projector screens by the camera crew – this allowed the audience to be able to view the entire demonstration, which captivated everyone in the audience. The successful event was the result of good collaboration between PT Effrensindo and the TFPP APAC team that included Country Manager, Listiawati Lim and Singapore’s Alan Ang, Dennis Mak, Thomas Fung and Jesslyn Tan with great support from the local Sales and Business Development leaders. We look forward to more future collaborations with our regional distributors.

Q3 Sales was $55.9M; representing a 2.5% YoY decline and 8% below Q3 Plan.

Patrick and team delivered a good Q3 for ANZ, the only region in APAC to beat Plan with sales at $12M; up 8% YoY and 2% above Plan. Asia is down 5% YoY and missed plan by 3% mainly from Special Hazard due to delivery issues and project delays. China and India missed plan by 17% and 22% respectively. China continued

declining growth of 7% due to project slips and general China macroeconomics. North Asia also saw declining growth of 9% and missed Plan by 5%.

Special Hazard and Detection saw negative growth of 10% and 8% YoY respectively, and both short of Plan by 3%. Water segment grew 13% and met Plan. Mechanical segment saw 46% growth YoY and beat Plan by 70% mainly from SHURJOINT GRINNELL sales.

Overall Q3 YTD sales was $167M; representing an 3.7% YoY increase but short of Plan by 4%. Full Year forecast is expected to miss Plan by 3% or $6M, primarily driven by China region but up 3% YoY for APAC Region.

EXTRA HANDY ZIP-LOCK BAGS

Depending on where you’re going, you may need to get special vaccines or medications as a precaution against various diseases.

if you’re going for a long trip, there may be a good chance that you’ll need to check in a bag. if you do, take a photo of it that can be used to describe the bag, just in case it gets lost on the flight. You will thank yourself for doing that if it does happen.

Did you know that you can save map sections for offline use if you type “OK maps” into google Maps? this will save you time while you are on the trip, as well as to cut down on your data usage.

create digital backups for all important documents that you’ll need for your trip, including passports, any booking confirmations, boarding passes, etc. so you are covered even in the event of loss or theft.

these can be useful, especially when you need to get liquids, gels and toiletries through airport security.

Megha Sonawane is the Administration Assistant at

the TFPP Mumbai office. She has been with Tyco since May 2012. Always bubbly and helpful, she would be the first person you turn to when you need some advice at the office. Megha handles all the office administration and supports Sales and Marketing for the TFPP team in the India Region. That keeps her busy throughout the day.

Despite that, Megha is quite sanguine about her work. “I think I’m a friendly person. You can hardly find me in a bad mood that would

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL

take me to the point of being rude or inconsiderate” she claims, “those who know me can attest to that.” That is what her colleagues love about Megha. “The best part of my job is having the freedom to express myself – laugh whenever I need to de-stress; speak and be heard; work not because I’m paid to do so, but because I’m inspired to do my best.” Megha adds.

“There are however, challenges at times. That’s when I accept everything that comes my way, not realizing there isn’t enough time in my calendar to make it happen”.

Megha was born in Chembur and grew up in this suburb in eastern Mumbai, where she still lives with her own family and in-laws. Megha is happily married to Yogendra and they have a 3-year old son, Akshat. Her favorite sport is swimming but spending quality time with her son is the probably the first priority when she finds time at home.

She shares, “My father who is in his early 50s had open heart surgery recently. That really scared the hell out of me but at the same time, it sent a clear message that we should all be mindful of our own health and take charge of our well-being.”

One thing that you may not know about her, is that she is very inspired by Sadhguru, who is a renowned Indian author, poet and visionary. He has been a great influence on how she lives her life. She highly recommends his book called “Inner Engineering”, as it totally changed her perception about her life and the world we live in. On her views about life, Megha says,

The beauty of life lies in its imperfection.

Though my life is not perfect and it has

been full of challenges, i wouldn’t change

anything in the world for it.
