Dear Parents, Pirates Versus Mermaids, our MP1 production was held this morning at TX. What a fantastic, colourful performance from the children as they told the story of Captain Scarypants who was afraid of water. Luckily, the mermaids were able to help Captain Scarypants to overcome his fear by teaching him to swim. The mermaids and pirates settled some of their differences however the debate remained…who is better, the pirates or the mermaids? The super costumes and props really helped bring the show to life; thank you to our very creative and talented teaching assistants. Thank you also to the class teachers and Mr Robbie who worked very hard to develop our young stars and prepare them for the stage.

Our Year 6 children are enjoying an action-packed adventure in Gopeng this week. Since departing on

Monday morning, they have been flat-water rafting, trekking, caving and have enjoyed the high ropes in

mountain school. I look forward to welcoming the explorers back to school on Monday, hearing about their

tales and sharing photos of their activities.

From the Head Teacher– Ms Sue Hill

Blogs are an important tool for communication at TX. Each class has its own blog with lots of information about upcoming events, homework and photos of what has been going on in the class and Milepost. My old blog had over 70,000 page views, so I know that many found it useful. At BIS, we have tried to bring all the blogs together so you can access them in one place – the BIS HUB. There is a link on the school website that will take you to the home pages of AP1 and AP2 as well as TX. Each week, this section of the newsletter will tell you what posts have been put on the BIS HUB. Photographs of performances and events have proved very popular in the past, and I have added some of today’s performance of ‘Pirates Vs Mermaids’, and a link to a gallery with over 130 photos. Please feel free to download any of your child. On BIS HUB (www.bisvietnam.com/blog/cat/tu-xuong-primary/) this week you will find the following posts:

'Shiver me timbers' - what a performance! This

morning we were treated to a wonderful show

by the children in Milepost 1.

Captain Scarypants, a pupil at 'Me Hearty High

School', was the model student until his secret

slipped out; he had a terrifying fear of water! If he wanted to pass his 'Arrr

Levels' he was going to have to conquer his fear. His only hope was to ask his

arch enemies, the mermaids, for help. With his classmates and a carrot (which

his classmates pointed out should have been a parrot), they set off to the

secret mermaid cave. After more adventures, Captain Scarypants learnt to

swim and then saved the mermaids from a vicious crocodile. In the end, the

mermaids and pirates were not quite friends but they certainly weren't enemies

any more, and they had learnt the lesson that it was important to face your

fears. The last word went to the parrot - squawk!

In front of a large audience of parents, teachers and the rest of the school, the

children in Milepost 1 did a fantastic job. They clearly had worked very hard to

learn all their lines, they sang with gusto and stayed in character the whole

time; pirates being fierce and mermaids being sophisticated! It was of course,

a great team effort, and a huge thank you needs to go to all the teachers,

teaching assistants and other members of staff for all their hard work. Mr. Ian Battersby Deputy Head of Tu Xuong Primary Campus

Schedule of School Fees 2015 - 2016

Dear Parents The Schedule of Fees for the Academic Year 2015 – 2016 has now been published. A copy can be viewed and downloaded from the school web site by following this link: http://www.bisvietnam.com/admissions/admission-information/fees/ You will note that compared to last year there has been an average increase in the school Tuition Fees of 6.1%, which is the lowest average fee increase for the school in seven years. We have kept the fee increase to the minimum that will allow us to maintain the same high quality of educational provision in a growing school. We remain convinced that we represent good value for money and are comparable with similar schools in Vietnam and elsewhere in the region. Shaun Williams CEO and Principal

Nepal charity fund

A truly enormous thank you to everyone who donated to the Nepal charity fund last week. We raised a MASSIVE

VND 119,062,000

And there is more to come… all the money from the Charity Splash is not yet

in.

Ms. Heather Robinson EAL Teacher and Community Services Campus Leader

Charity Swimming Splash

In order to raise money for the Nepal appeal the students at the TX campus took part in a sponsored

swim event over the last two weeks. The students in Years 3-6 took sponsorship forms home to family

and friends and asked them to sponsor them per length that they swam. The students had 30 minutes to

swim as many lengths as possible. Well done to all the students that took part so far; you have raised

around 70 million VND. Thank you to everyone who donated money and made the event possible!

Mrs. Charlotte Pemble

PE Leader - TX Campus

Finer Diners

Congratulations to Bao Van, Peter and

PdV and Year 4

It was the final week of the Y4 project with PdV, and it was amazing to see the animated stories that they had produced over just a few short weeks. It was clear that a lot of work (and fun) had gone into the project, and everyone enjoyed the films’ premier and the final party. We were also happy to be able to give PdV some non-slip carpet so that they can stay safe during

activities in their own school. The money to buy this had been raised during TX’s International Celebration

last November.
