of Cookies for everyone (sorry Mike, just those of age)? They actually taste better than they sound,

especially with a lot of ice.

Hey guys! I haven't been posting much lately because, gosh(tmArchie), there's just been so much to hear

and seeand do!But where else would I be on this night of nights? I've had myself on low rations of DCTR ,

and I'm so effin' excited to be sitting here in my pppink panties with confetti and shots lined up waiting for

midnight that I've even scheduled a day off work tomorrow. Yeah. SO Cooked.

My only disappointment right now is that not only is my CD apparently stuck in Mesquite TX, too, it is

heading in the wrong direction - because yesterday's tracking said I'd have it Tuesday, and now it's telling

me the 20th. WTF. Congratulations, WalMart, you have just made a sworn enemy of the one person

remaining on earth who had previously confessed to not hating you.

I would like to add my welcome to all the new folks, and also say thanks-a-lot to the one whose Freudian slip

has added to the list of words I need to avoid using for fear of an unintended double-entendre (say that three

times fast). I had to think twice about putting "OPEN TO ALL DCO MEMBERS," on the shiny new contest

banner I'm making.

A few shoutouts to my favorites of the day:

First, KDC, your latest Fan Report? OMFG. As usual I can't cite the parts that killed me, because that would

be the whole damn thing. Although:

Fan 3, nerdily: "Gemstones don't just lie there in the dirt, they're chemical compounds which typically occur

in specific formations . . ."

Fan 4, also nerdily: "You're mixing metaphors!"

Heh. You know this bunch all too well.

Folkfan: (Sigh.) The day that I start adding !!11!!1! to the ends of my sentences without any sense of irony is

the day that I step away from the internet.

Hee. It sometimes gets hard around here for those of us who are vainly attempting to cling to our dignity,

doesn't it?

And Mike? You're a hoot. I hope you become our King. And that's only partially because you guessed

456,000.

Sorry to run on and on. Nervous energy, I guess. Only 2 hours and 8 minutes!

videos, Gala and otherwise? That sounds insane to me. Is that insane or an I insane? Anywho, if you didn't

watch anything at all: You've got so much to catch up on, it isn't even funny!

Awesome KDC! Lets string them all together and get that script into somebody!

DC's iPod is too damn funny. When I saw Led Zepplin (1), I said watch - that one song is D'yer Maker. Heh.

Sho'anuff. What other songs did we discuss here that are on there? And I don't mean in our random lists of

It hasn't escaped my attention that all of the journalists that spent time interviewing DC all have pretty

amazing things to say. Many of the reviewers that haven't met him seem to be detached....I think that time

will change that.

Yes, yes, yes! Part of my (tm) NBSDCBTDC! I always say once they meet him, they can't help but be takenby him. All that AI bias crap goes out the window. I think these articles by journalists who've spent time with

David are way more important and influential than the brief reviews with letter grades. Newspaper and online

readers get way more out of these profile pieces and get a better sense of what David and his music are all

about. And they tend to be very positive pieces. There are at least three great ones I can think of: Ann

Powers' LA Times, Chris Willman EW (he had a twofer-the Q&A online and the magazine article), and

Rolling Stone a few weeks ago. And dIdn't MTV do a nice profile with that video interview on the set of the

music video? These profiles will help way more than the quick reviews will hurt. IMO.

Foraker story that talked about what happened when David got through and Andrew didn't.

called the finale an upset annoys him! Nobody in the history of Idol worked harder for that title and

he deserved it hands down!

Jules, I loved this statement, too. Though it wasn't in the Ann Powers article, it was in the USA

Today interview/review. There were all sorts of admissions near the end of that article that are SO

refreshing to finally hear him admit:

"I guess I have a chip on my shoulder, because I hate that some people call it an upset,"

"To look at him [Archie] as someone who needs protecting demeans him a little,"

"I know I ended up winning the prize everyone was shooting for," Cook says. "I was worried abouta backlash, but nobody made me feel unwanted. I never felt any malice or jealousy."

"I think he [Andrew] had to distance himself for a while to make peace and come to grips with it, but

then he became one of my biggest supporters," Cook says. - We heard this in Beth's magazine

article a while back, but I think it's the first I've ever heard/seen David address it.

Snort! How rude of me to forget their wardrobe needs. Teal tuxes would work just fine, and teal boxers,

That USA Today article is *really* interesting. And the thing that made me go awww about his ipod was that

he has 3 Huey Lewis and the News tunes on it. DC has always reminded a bit of HL, cause of the sexy

raspy voice and the sheer fun of his rockin' and rollin'.

My god. I have a total girlcrush on Ann Powers now. That was one of the best DC related things I've read in

quite some time. The one pervasive notion I'm seeing in these reviews is that if it's not "dark," it's not good.

It's nice to see someone not buy into that oh so juvenile notion.

Re: Barnes. I'm not surprised at all on that review. He was very lukewarm on David all season. He had this

weird sort of pretend he liked him but always subtlety slam him vibe (drink) going on all year long. He was

starting to get seriously annoying by the end, IMO.

Oh a different note, despite the fact that I have preordered The Record four times (one from itunes, one fromwal-mart - hello? I needed the bonus tracks - one with the "autograph" and one "regular" copy from amazon)

I want to run to wal-mart at midnight and buy it. After downloading my itunes preorder, of course. That's

crazy right? Someone tell me that leaving my house at midnight on a work night for an album I'll soon have

four copies of is insane. Please? Anyone?

Dear David: You have my dignity. I'd like it back. I need it to function as an adult in today's society. Please,

I actually defied #2 and billed quite a few hours today. I'd be a 2 and a 7. I did catch up with the thread but

am not anal enough (or too lazy, take your pick) to quote all the ftw posts. Just know that I flove this thread

and every one of you.

What sucks for me is I go into the office one day a week and that just happens to be tomorrow. So being that

there's no shiny CD on my doorstep, I have to visit Target or Walmart before I go into the office tomorrow, I

don't have iTunes there and I'll be damned if I'm spending the day without DCTR. So I drop my DD off at

7:30 and they both (about 10 minutes away fromt he school) open at 8. I'll go to Target first...I already did my

yearly penance at walmart this weekend and for naught...no DC rocking the big screens, no lawn/leaf bags.

But then there's the bonus song to be considered, oh, what to do, what to do?

So I didn't spring for the autographed copy of DCTR...the only autographs I've ever gotten were very

personal. I didn't want to pay for that. Maybe some day I will get a more personal one. So in my rationalizing

mind, I can go buy a copy to take to work with me and it will still cost less.Was it Sugarpie who said she couldn't afford to miss work and go to the doctor, and then in the next breath

said she was going to buy *another* copy of the record. I'm glad to see you have your priorities straight

*textual grin*

I'm seriously crushing on Ann Powers now. That was a very respectful interview, she treated him as a

musician and songwriter, not an Idol product. I particularly loved everything Folkfan pointed out and I also

liked this quote:

"To call them "post-grunge" reduces the regional breadth and continued appeal of these artists"

As a grunge and post-grunge fan, it drives nuts that these critics keep referring to this record as grunge,

when it simply isn't. His only connection to grunge is Cornell, so they should stop with that.

And Ann Powers is totally on his side now:

"Cook smiled his famous room-warming smile."

It hasn't escaped my attention that all of the journalists that spent time interviewing DC all have pretty

amazing things to say. Many of the reviewers that haven't met him seem to be detached....I think that time

Like most "American Idol" champ debuts, " David Cook" (19/RCA) won't go down as the rocker's best album.

It's uneven, sort of rushed and slightly schizophrenic, held together mainly by his charming growl and

producer Rob Cavallo's rockish gloss. But that only speaks to David Cook's considerable promise, bolstered

by the album's impressive middle. The power ballads "Life on the Moon" and "Mr.Sensitive" should prove

even more durable than the smash "The Time of My Life." He stretches boundaries creatively with the

metallic, grinding "Bar-Ba-Sol" - part Pearl Jam fist-pumper, part Alice in Chains slither. Somehow, "David

Cook" matches its creator - a little unfocused but brimming with potential and so much likability that the

faults get forgotten.

THE GRADE B(+)

BOTTOM LINE "Idol" keeps winning.

reported that someone predicted THE RECORD would only sell 500K. Isn't that Ken Barnes's blog?

Re GMA: DC and Steven Cobert FTW! Was anyone else remined of the group sings? Just me then? Okay.

Also, watching Dianne Sawyer, a woman I had always thought of as a bit of an ice princess, actually put her

head on DC's shoulder like a besotted 14 yr old girl was beyond hysterical. Note to self: In the extremely

unlikely case that I ever find myself in the same room as David Cook, be sure to (1) wear a jacket with

pockets (2) line pockets with superglue and (3) place hands firmly in said pockets.

Somebody downthread commented that the Fanbase thread had gotten a lot less interesting after the mods

took out all the arrows, and circles and so forth. I only stumbled into the Fanbase thread once (it was an

accident, I swear!) , but I was a little confused by all the circles and arrows. I mean, does any self respecting

David Cook fan really require assistance in locating the anatomical areas in question? Seriously??

I've never done the pre-order thing from iTunes either but someone (I forget who) told me that it would

automatically start downloading as soon as it is available. I guess time will tell. Can we not click on our

Account Info and use the Manage Preorders feature to force it to download? I just might have to try that if it

doesn't begin downloading right at midnight. I swear, if those inept idiots at Apple screw up this pre-order

thing, that will be strike 2 against them. Once they reach strike 3, I just might have to pick up my trusty old

Mac and throw it to the curb and begrudgingly switch over to the dark side with the rest of you PC people--

that's right, I currently have no shame in being a total Mac snob.

Okay this was weird a couple of hundred threads back myself and a few others posted about how we did not

know how to "post" about music or songs etc because we did not have the correct language to use, I

suppose we could have asked Chomsky (LOL), but someone posted we needed the dummies guide to

music anyway I just checked Amazon to see if they sent my CD and guess what book they recommended

for me "The Complete Idiots Guide to Music Theory" which someone had suggested on this thread. Now I

call that a DC=42 moment. It was strange because I have never bought a music book of any kind on

Amazon ever.

And I sent Light On to my friend and he just called me to tell me that they just played it on Monday Night

Football for a touchdown replay. I think I may have converted another Cook fan.

And I love this record so much that I haven't been able to really write about it. It's just: I want to BE with it,

not analyze it. Even with all the hope and faith in the world though, the sales scenario is scary. Not because

it's the wrong record (it's not), or RCA screwed him over (they didn't), but because hello, big world out there

with nasty sh*t happening.

I just finished listening to THE RECORD and I had the weirdest thought: what if they do A Daily Anthem

for next years Idol Gives Back, Shout To The Lord style? David and Neal could do the guitar parts, there

could be a choir . . . it would be awesome.

I watched Heroes tonight and I was very disappointed that David's song was not the theme song yet.

Not only is "Heroes' gone from soundcheck, but they edited "Lie!" When he belts out the word 'stay,' his

voice originally got very high pitched. After just watching it again, the high pitch has been edited out and it

just cuts out after he starts belting out 'stay'. Listen carefully to it!! Wonder who has the say to mess around

with it!!??!!

amberbear, it won't start downloading by itself. You'll get an email with a link to the download; unfortunately

iTunes is notorious for not getting those out right away. You can also try going to the Store menu (in iTunes)

and selecting "check for purchased music."

I'd almost forgotten about that little problem. Hope we don't get Baba O'Rileyed too badly by iTunes tonight.

Less than half an hour to WorldCookification Day. Y'all are ON FIRE tonight (and Gingerhead, that was

awesome. I have no regret whatsoever for my bacon in the pppink panties ppploy. I've been pppatient to a

As a virgin to the album (no streaming for me), I can't even adequately express how stoked I am for the

stroke of midnight.

That USA Today article was most excellent. I love taking a peak on to other people's iPod's. I love me some

Huey Lewis & The News myself every now a then but was surprised to see it on his playlist. And it's nice to

see he's showing the love to THH.

Jules - fellow Canuck here right with you that we better be able to get THE record at midnight too.

The Wal-Mart near me closes at midnight (what? I checked their hours on the web site today) so no midnight

at the oasis for me. They open at six a.m. though - so maybe a stop on my way to work will be in order. I'm

also ticked that I have to actually go into the office tomorrow for a freakin' all day meeting. When the heck

am I going to listen to the record enough. Thank gawd I had last week off and could enjoy the Davalanche

that was.

Looks like our boy may be singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas at Rockefeller Square (Centre?) -

both the Frank Sinatra and the Twisted Sister on the iPod are that song - he'll be doing a schizo version of it

combining the two.I love Ann Powers.

Now must go back to read what KDC has "cooked" up for us to celebrate with. Oh man, I just read that she

drinks grappa - that explains it all.

And my iTunes is hiccupping/stuttering (too much celebratory drinking perhaps?) - it better iron itself out
