Workshop Overview
Concrete is the most commonly use building material other than water in the world. From a mere mixture of cement, sand, Aggregates and water this product has carved a niche in to a technically and aesthetically important product in the building material industry. Concrete infrastructure constitutes about 60% of the built environment. In India we are yet to reach a respectful figure, but efforts are on to create a sustainable infrastructure environment. Further more than 70% job opportunities available for civil engineers requires Knowledge of concrete and cement This Program intends to train civil engineering students in the areas of Cement and concrete Technology… For any student, this will be taught as subject with more focus on imparting knowledge. Here, through this training program we are adding the critical gap of connecting the knowledge to practical applications. Also this program covers the topics in the areas of Special concretes like Self compacting concrete, Foam Concrete and also latest innovations in concrete technology. Through this program a student can understand the importance of application based knowledge in this subject and also get a feel that how the theory he studies in the classroom is being applied in the field. The entire program is an AV presentation filled with numerous videos so that the learning is very easy and enjoyable.
Workshop participants also discussed issues that would benefit from further research and technology transfer activities.
This summary highlights the key elements from the workshop. Comments from speaker in the opening session is presented first. The five track leaders’ comments on the discussion of the topics addressed in the breakout sessions are summarized in the closing session. The PowerPoint presentations used by speaker and video recordings can be accessed online through the links embedded in the final program.
