The Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir (TWMVC) was established in 1995 when itsfounding member and first president, Gwyn Roberts, gathered together a group oflike-minded men of Welsh heritage to kindle the spirit of traditional Welsh male voicesinging in their adopted country. Although many of the current members still layclaim to Welsh connections, the TWMVC has members from a variety of ethnic back-grounds. The choir proudly draws on the great Welsh tradition of singing songsborn of the mountains & valleys of Wales. At the same time it emphasizes a multi-cultural context in its broad repertoire including spirituals; operatic arias, Canadianfolk songs as well as Broadway show tunes & contemporary music. Their blend oftraditional & contemporary music, all sung off book, appeals to a broad audience.

The Choir has performed in churches, cathedrals & concert halls throughout Ontario,Quebec and New York State. In August 2002 and July 2013 the choir completedhighly successful tours of Wales. During July 2005 they toured the Maritimes wherethey performed five concerts for appreciative audiences in Nova Scotia and PrinceEdward Island. In September 2008, the choir was invited to take part in a combinedchoir of 400 voices at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City and in 2010the choir had a very successful tour of the Canadian Rockies. The choir wasprivileged to perform as the headline choir at the North American Festival of Walesin Rochester New York August 31 to September 3, 2017. Our concert repertoireincludes the simple message that what we have in common with one another faroutweighs our differences. Our common ground is our humanity, and best expressedby what we at the TWMVC do best – promoting choral traditions that have enrichedthe human experience through the ages.
