READ TO FEEDPROGRAM

AT IST

READ TO FEED AT IST ELEMENTARY

Read to feed is a project set up by Heifer International. Children have the task

of finding people to sponsor them for every book they read, they should read

lots of books. After that, Heifer International collects all the money the students

have earned and buys animals with it. Next they give the animals as gifts to a

family in a village, when the animal gives birth the family will give one offspring

to another family from the village. Just from the gifts the students give them,

they get a higher education, medical treatment, a better shelter, plus more food

and water. Miss Heitmiller thinks that Read to Feed is a terrific idea because

reading is important and helping people is important. Ms.

Heitmiller also says that by giving the gift they also learn to be

more responsible by taking care of the animal. Read to feed is

going on for the rest of the month so keep on reading and help

people in need!

One day while we were living in Malawi, my mom saw that the localvegetable seller was selling a little kitten in an empty maze sack. Shesaid the cat was 500 kwatcha. That’s about 5,000 shillings, so wedecided to buy her! My sister, Maria, looked in the big bag and saw acute little black and white kitten, which looked up and winked at her.And that is how Winky got her name. She was a normal playful kittenwho liked to play with string and little geckos. But the most amazingthing about her is that she opens doors! She really is an amazing cat.

I know that when you see a small cutepuppy on the side of the road being sold, the first thing you want to do is pick it upand hug it, but listen up you can't! If you buy

that one adorable puppy the only thingyou’re doing is making it worse. Buying oneonly encourages the sellers to breed more, and before you know it there might be more!Do us the favour and please think beforebuying any animal on the streets becausewe already have way too many.

DON’T BUY DOGS!
